STARTING THIS WEEK: Nearly twenty years after first strutting onto the cultural runway, the icons of The Devil Wears Prada return for the long-awaited sequel, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2.

Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci slip back into their impeccably styled roles as Miranda, Andy, Emily, and Nigel, transporting audiences to the glamourous couture chaos of New York City from the glossy corridors of Runway Magazine to the fast-paced sidewalks that double as the city’s unofficial catwalk.

The sequel stitches together the original creative team – director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna – reuniting them with the film’s core cast while unveiling a fresh collection of star-studded talent including, Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Pauline Chalamet, B. J. Novak, and Conrad Ricamora.

My Survival As An Aboriginal is a landmark documentary made by activist and advocate, Essie Coffey OAM, telling the story of her life in the township of Brewarrina. Coffey, a Murawarri woman who co-founded the Western Aboriginal Legal Service in the 1970s, turns the camera on herself and her town to describe the many injustices faced by the Indigenous community. The first Australian documentary made by an Aboriginal woman, this film broke ground and created pathways for future screen storytelling and has an important place in the history of this land.

STARTING THIS WEEK: A vibrant, heartfelt, and quietly uplifting Spanish drama led by a radiant performance from screen legend Carmen Maura. Set against the sun-drenched backdrop of Tangier, this film follows Maria Angeles, a fiercely independent 79-year-old whose life is thrown into disarray when her daughter arraives with plans to sell her home. What begins as a family conflict soon becomes something more unexpected – a journey of resistance, reinvention, and rediscovery.
From the filmmaker of the acclaimed The Blue Caftan (2022).

In Spanish and Arabic, with English subtitles.

STARTING THIS WEEK: Three-time Emmy nominee Melanie Lynskey (YELLOWJACKETS, THE LAST OF US) and acclaimed NZ actress Robyn Malcolm (TOP OF THE LAKE, AFTER THE PARTY) star as Anna Osborne and Sonya Rockhouse; two ordinary women who together stand up and take on the government, justice system and a company that will stop at nothing to protect itself, after the 2010 Pike River Mine explosion takes the lives of 29 men underground.

This is a film about the powerless vs. the powerful, of people vs. money, of right vs. wrong. An inspiring true story of an incredible female friendship and together what is possible when you simply won’t give up.

THIS SATURDAY: From Oscar-nominated documentarian Amy Berg comes this touching look at a life and legacy of a life cut tragically short.

When young star Jeff Buckley – whose father, singer-songwriter Tim Buckley, died at the young age of 28 – released his first album ‘Grace’, he’d taken the world by storm. After touring extensively across four continents, he settled down and began to work on his second album, begore trafically passing away at only 30 years old. Covering his meteoric rise through unseen footage and interviews with his mother, friends, and other musicians, Berg’s comprehensive and delicate documentary pays tribute to this truly singular artist.

Two sessions only!

SHOWING TONIGHT (tickets via our website): The doorway to death is the last great frontier in human life. Intellectually, we all know our lives will end, and yet – in the Western world at least – we act as if death is a mirage, disappearing the closer we move towards it. Two doctors in Australia are using psilocybin to help ease the anguish of their patients at the end of life, and the results they have seen are truly remarkable. But this visioning tool, like other plant medicines, is not new; it comes from ancient traditions.

When the doctors journey to the Amazon to experience traditional medicines for themselves, they are confronted by realisations they have no explanation for. Is it possible the world’s oldest cultures have something important to teach us, not just about traditional medicines, but about death itself?

Screening hosted by the Australian Psychedelic Society. $5 from every ticket sold goes towards supporting the APS to fulfil its mission.
