My name is Lauren and I run Little L :)
I started Little L in April 2012 selling all sorts of handmade goodies with a vintage feel. Initially selling only at local markets in Perth, Western Australia I have developed my small business with the loving support of my family. I started out making all manner of handmade items from home decor to jewellery. My cross stitching addiction began a couple of
years in to my business when I unpacked all my Grandma and Mum's supplies of thread and aida (fabric I stitch on). I picked up a pattern online and started stitching one Boxing Day afternoon after Christmas while watching cricket on the back patio. I haven't stopped since! My relationship with cross-stitching materials is love hate. I love the colours, all organised and on display. I love the crispness of the aida as it's cut and ironed. But... I hate unwinding threads, there is an art to it that I am yet to master! I hate how fragile aida can be and how one mark can ruin everything! I think I enjoy the process more than the materials! I love the fact that as I stitch I feel like I am painting a picture of something, I can see it come to life right in front of me as the colours weave into shapes and something amazing starts to appear. I think taking a traditional craft such as cross stitching and flipping it on its head, stitching items from pop culture or music or movies is what makes Little L stand out! I love traditional cross stitching but also love the idea of stitching a quote from Mean Girls or a logo from a video game or something that only makes sense to you and your best friend! The quirkier the better! I want each of my customers to feel special when they purchase one of my pieces. To know that hours of time have gone into the pieces they own and that they each have a unique meaning to them. I hope I can pass on the connections I make in the creation process to my customers as they take these pieces home with them!
