Looking to study film?
Join In Conversation with Murdoch University Alumni - Martin Wilson - From Film Student to Feature Director.
The School of Media and Communication at Murdoch University is proud to present a special event with acclaimed filmmaker Martin Wilson, one of Murdoch's distinguished Screen Production graduates.
Martin is an AACTA-nominated Australian director. His debut feature Great White was released by Universal Pictures and named a top action film of 2021 by The New York Times. On streamers the film reached number five on Netflix and number one on Hulu. His second feature, the independent film Pieces, received multiple AACTA nominations and was sold to Binge and Foxtel, cementing his reputation as a rising voice in bold, high-concept genre filmmaking.
Martin will plot his journey, which begins as a graduate from Murdoch University, through his extensive career in television commercials, to writing and directing fully crewed and funded feature films. He will also discuss the challenges and opportunities in directing Great White, including how to shape the performance of experienced actors in a long-form production, how he approaches evaluating a script, and his process as a director in developing and designing a visual story.
He will also share useful stories about the trials he has experienced in shooting the film over just 25 days, such as shooting underwater action scenes.
The event includes a full screening of Great White, followed by time for questions and open discussion afterwards.
