Arab Experimental Film & Moving Image Festival – First Edition
Berlin, 17 till 19 October 2025.
We are pleased to announce the launch of the first edition of the Arab Experimental Film & Moving Image Festival, taking place in Berlin 2025.
This festival is conceived as a platform for formally ambitious, socially and politically sensitive, and critically engaged works from artists and filmmakers with connections to the Arab world and worldwide. It is dedicated to expanding the conversation around the moving image—one that is not limited by genre or geography, but attentive to process, poetics, and the unstable boundaries of the image itself.
We are particularly interested in works that defy conventional cinematic expectations—whether through fragmentation, abstraction, personal documentary, archival play, hybrid fiction, or material experimentation. The festival aims to foreground artistic practices that treat the moving image not only as a medium of representation, but as a site of inquiry, rupture, and reconfiguration.
This first edition will include screenings, installations, discursive sessions, and performative formats. The focus is not on industry, but on the urgency of independent voices and evolving aesthetic vocabularies—those that speak from the margins, but not only about them.
In recognition of the diversity of linguistic and cultural positions within and around Arab artistic production, there are two application pathways:

The festival is founded by Maamoun Azmy, and Cinemate Productions is responsible for the executive production and curatorial framework.
We welcome contributions across film, video, essay, installation, single-channel, expanded cinema, and other moving image practices.

مهرجان الفيلم التجريبي والصورة المتحرّكة العربي – النسخة الأولى
برلين، اكتوبر 2025
يسرّنا الإعلان عن انطلاق النسخة الأولى من مهرجان الفيلم التجريبي والصورة المتحرّكة العربي، والذي سيُقام في برلين خلال اكتوبر 2025.
يأتي هذا المهرجان كمنصة للأعمال الطموحة شكليًا، والحسّاسة اجتماعيًا وسياسيًا، والمُنخرطة نقديًا، والتي يُنتجها فنانون وصنّاع أفلام على صلة بالعالم العربي، في الداخل والخارج. يهدف المهرجان إلى توسيع الحوار حول الصور المتحرّكة—حوار لا تحدّه الأنواع السينمائية أو الجغرافيات، بل ينفتح على العملية الإبداعية، وحدود الصورة المتغيّرة وغير المستقرة.
نبحث بشكل خاص عن الأعمال التي تتجاوز التوقعات السينمائية التقليدية—سواءً من خلال التفكيك، التجريد، التوثيق الشخصي، اللعب بالأرشيف، الخيال الهجين، أو التجريب المادي. يركّز المهرجان على الممارسات الفنية التي ترى في الصورة المتحرّكة أكثر من مجرّد وسيط تمثيلي، بل فضاءً للطرح والتشكيك وإعادة التكوين.
تشمل النسخة الأولى عروضًا سينمائية، وتركيبات بصرية، وجلسات نقاشية، وصيغًا أدائية متنوعة. لا يركّز المهرجان على الصناعة السينمائية بقدر ما يحتفي بإلحاح الأصوات المستقلة وبتطوّر القواميس الجمالية—تلك التي تنطلق من الهامش، دون أن تقتصر عليه.
وإيمانًا بتعدّد المواقع اللغوية والثقافية داخل الإنتاج الفني العربي وما حوله، يوفّر المهرجان مسارين للتقديم:

أسّس المهرجان مأمون عزمي، وتتولى شركة Cinemate Productions الإنتاج التنفيذي والإطار التنظيمي والقيّم الفني.
