DEADLOCK, dessen Bewunderer von Alejandro Jodorowsky über Steven Spielberg bis zu Quentin Tarantino reichen, verliert nie das Tempo und bewegt sich mit einer Intensität, wie sie im deutschen Film seitdem kaum wieder zu finden ist. Mit einem Soundtrack der legendären Krautrock-Band CAN!

AVA präsentiert die "Chaplin Kollektion" - eine Sammlung von 9 frühen Filmen des einzigartigen Charlie Chaplin:

In der Slapstick-Komödie "One A.M." kommt Chaplin spät und nicht ganz nüchtern nach Hause und stolpert durch sein Schicksal. Die herzliche Erzählung von "The Immigrant" erfasst die Essenz von Menschlichkeit mit unvergleichlichem Witz und Charme. In Klassikern wie "The Vagabond" und "The Floorwalker" spielt Chaplin mit vollem Körpereinsatz, während “The Fireman" und "The Adventurer" Chaplin vollends zur Legende machten.

Zur Feier des Internationalen Frauentags präsentiert AVA eine Sammlung von sechs kurzen Stummfilmen von Alice Guy-Blaché, der ersten Filmemacherin der Welt.

Zwischen 1896 und 1906 war Alice Guy die einzige Frau, die Filme inszenierte. Ursprünglich begann sie ihre Karriere als Sekretärin von Léon Gaumont und wagte sich 1896 mit ihrem Debütfilm in die Filmproduktion. Nach ihrem ersten Film übernahm sie die Leitung bei der Regie, Produktion oder Aufsicht von nahezu sechshundert Stummfilmen. Diese Filme variierten in ihrer Länge von einer Minute bis zu einer halben Stunde, wobei die meisten als Einzelrollenfilme waren. Darüber hinaus spielte sie auch eine bedeutende Rolle bei der Regie, Produktion oder Aufsicht von etwa einhundertfünfzig Tonfilmen, die mit dem Gaumont Chronophone synchronisiert waren.

Clara, a lonely nurse from the outskirts of São Paulo, is hired by mysterious and wealthy Ana as the nanny of her unborn child. Against all odds, the two women develop a strong bond. But a fateful night changes their plans.

AVA highlights: “The Invisible Frame” directed by Cynthia Beatt.

In 1988, the British director Cynthia Beatt, who is based in Berlin, conceived a special cinematic bike tour. She selected a number of places along the 160 km long border where the young Tilda Swinton cycled along. In June 2009, Cynthia Beatt and Tilda Swinton re-traced the line of the Wall that once isolated Berlin from East and West Germany.

“The Invisible Frame" describes the journey 21 yeast after the fall of the Wall through varied landscapes, this time on both sides of the former border. Tilda Swinton’s personal reflections are integrated as inner monologues and complete the film’s soundscape composed by Simon Fisher Turner, who collaborated with Derek Jarman and Tilda Swinton in the 80’s.

AVA pick of the week: The African Cypher. Film by Bryan Little.

“When we dance, we find purpose with our bodies.” (Tom London, Soweto's Finest).

Street dance in South Africa is a complex, convoluted underworld. Like most subcultures, it exists as a sum of its participants. In townships, ghettos and suburbs exist a group of individuals who form partially a dance crew - partially a group therapy. Whether it is Isipantsula, B-boying, Krump or Sbhujwa - for many of the dancers the situation in their communities is a struggle for purpose, identity and the confidence. Whatever this dance thing is. It is beautiful, part circus / part soul. No matter the context or style. We all ultimately dance for an audience of one.
