The 27th NECS Graduates Workshop – taking place from 22-23 April 2027 and organised in cooperation with HTW Berlin – invites transdisciplinary contributions and interventions that examine visual power. One more week until the 7th NECS/IMACS lecture on "Transnational Flows in Militant Third World Filmmaking": Daniel Fairfax (Goethe-Universität Frankfurt) will argue for understanding Third Cinema as a counter-hegemonic world system active in the cultural sphere, which had the paradoxical goal common to all revolutionary art of upending the economic order it was compelled to operate within.

Following the revision of the Open Scholarship statement in Montpellier, the Open Scholarship Committee would like to encourage all NECS members to make their commitment to scholarship (more) visible – for example by adding a statement to your profile pages, social media profiles or email footers. Of course, feel free to copy, paste, and freely adapt to fit your own circumstances and policy!

NECSUS is now accepting submissions for the Spring 2027 issue on a wide range of topics related to film and television, digital media, game studies, media history and more. Abstracts (300 words) are due by 30 September 2026.
