Kinaara (Edge) by writer/director Kal Sabir will be screening at the Muslim International Film Festival (MIFF) in Toronto later this month. The full schedule will be online soon.

In the meantime, watch the 'Making of Kinaara' on YouTube, a behind-the-scene video about the short which was filmed over three days in September 2024.

Writer/director Kal Sabir is in pre-production of his next short film, The Odd Jobs, and is in search of key crew in Glasgow.

The Odd Jobs is a proof-of-concept short film for a TV series about the jobs actors do in between acting gigs, with a touch of paranormal.

Production is envisioned over three days between November 2026 and end of January 2027 - exact dates tbc.

Budget for the project will be raised via crowdfunding.

At this point, Kal is seeking expressions of interest for:

- Director of Photography
- Productioin Designer
- Gaffer
- Sound Recordist
- 1st Assistant Director
- Runner

Kinaara (Edge) by writer/director Kal Sabir is an official selection at the Muslim International Film Festival (MIFF) in Toronto.

MIFF has welcomed filmmakers and film lovers to Toronto since 2019, celebrating storytelling that is "bold, authentic, and upapologetically Muslim".

Kal would like to thank the festival for selecting his film to be a part of the programme, the National Theatre of Scotland () for producing the film, plus cast, crew and everyone involved in bring the story from script to screen.

KINAARA SCREENING AT GFT

Writer/director Kal Sabir's short film, KINAARA (EDGE), will be screened at the Glasgow Film Theatre as an accompaniment to ABU (FATHER), a documentary about a turbulent father/son relationship.

The screening will be on August 11th 2026 at 6:20pm and is part of South Asian Heritage Month.

Produced by the National Theatre of Scotland, Kinaara gives a snapshot of the challenges of dementia care in the South Asian community.

Writer/director Kal Sabir's short film, KINAARA (EDGE), is an official selection and finalist in multiple categories at the West Lothian Film Festival.

Winners will be announced at a black tie event in November. The film was produced by the National Theatre of Scotland in 2024, and premiered internationally at the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal in May 2026.

WATCH ONLINE: Kinaara (Edge) by writer/director Kal Sabir will receive its international premiere at the South Asian Film Festival of Montréal - SAFFM .

Available online from May 4th to 24th, the film shares a snapshot of the challenges of dementia care in the South Asian community. It was produced by the National Theatre of Scotland in 2024/25.
