I turned 44 this weekend… so here’s the Jen who existed before your bathroom turned purple 😆💜
The wee girl in the school photo? That’s me with Lisa, who’s STILL my best friend. Nearly 40 years later, we’re still finding excuses to get together. Usually with food involved.
I studied architecture, married Jon (our “formal” photos involved swings 😂), then became mum to Sophie in June 2014.
We’d wanted her for so long. But maternity leave was really difficult, and I lost a lot of weight. Those smiling baby selfies don’t tell you that bit.
You can absolutely adore your child and still find becoming a mum hard. Both can be true.
After going back to work, I felt restless. Somewhere between being Mum and doing my shifts, I wanted something that was just mine again.
Boddle began in April 2019, around my full-time Tesco job. Sophie’s sensitive skin gave me a problem to solve: could I make her a colourful, fun bath without the irritation?
Finding something that worked for her turned into making it for other families too. Mums who wanted the rainbow bath AND a comfortable wee person afterwards.
My first stall was in a rain-soaked field. The ground got muddier and I got lower as the day went on. A business launch with actual sinking involved 🤣
I moved into charity shop management and kept building Boddle around work. Handwriting children’s names on boxes, packing orders and learning as I went.
By February 2024, I’d left to make Boddle my full-time job and started converting our garage into the workshop.
Sophie’s now 12. The little girl who loved pouring water at her play table now helps me at stalls. She would have LOVED the potion tools we make today 🥹
