GMAC GMAC is a learning organisation that removes barriers and creates opportunities through filmmaking.

A charity established in February 1982 as Glasgow Film & Video Workshop, GMAC Film has had equality and diversity at its heart for nearly 40 years. GMAC Film works with over 1,500 people every year who would otherwise not have access to high quality moving image activities due to financial, cultural and geographical barriers. Founded as an open access centre for independent filmmakers in Glasgow a

nd the surrounding areas, it aimed to enable a greater diversity of people to make films. This, despite changing patterns of funding and outreach, remains the core purpose of GMAC Film today. We provide resources and deliver a creative, artistic programme for all people interested in film, regardless of age, background or income. We also create content and hire out space from our Glasgow base at Trongate 103. We support the development of an inclusive and diverse screen sector by hiring out production and office space as well as training and screening facilities at low cost. GMAC Film is uniquely placed to bring industry and community under one roof, making real life connections, supporting creativity and collaboration. In addition to the programme of funded activities, GMAC Film generates income through its Creative Hub by offering our fully equipped 48 seat Screening Room, Training Suite and office space for hire to creative individuals and organisations. Affordable production space encourages excellence and experimentation for the local filmmaking community, as well as access to training, employment and volunteering opportunities to GMAC Film participants. In this way GMAC Film is uniquely placed to bring together people from under-represented groups with opportunities for creative learning, skills development, production and employment.

Former CCA staff invite artists, organisations, unions, and workers to come together, organise and demand change:

‘City of Culture, Not City of Closure!’
📍 The Boardwalk, Glasgow
🗓 Thursday 9 April, 6pm

Across Glasgow, cultural spaces are closing, being evicted, or lost - reflecting years of underinvestment and growing precarity in the sector. CCA’s closure is not isolated.

The former CCA staff team are committed to ensuring their experience isn’t replicated elsewhere and continue to call on Creative Scotland and Glasgow City Council to meaningfully engage with cultural workers in shaping this city - its spaces, places and venues.

Get a glimpse into a Little Pictures workshop! 👀

Here’s some of our wonderful year 6 cohort chatting about their experiences during our in person workshop days back in January.

From documentary filmmaking to directing actors, and from editing to distribution, we want to thank all the workshop facilitators for sharing their knowledge and expertise: thanks to Miranda Stern, Sam Firth, Matt Mead, David Hunter, Matt Lloyd and Charlie Little.

With development well under-way, we’re so excited to be seeing these films progress from page to screen! 🖥️

Following the recent Notice to Quit served to GMAC by City Property (who are owned by Glasgow City Council), we’ve received an incredible outpouring of support from artists, partners and the wider creative community.

We want to share where things currently stand and talk about what comes next. So we’re opening our doors for a public meeting on Wednesday 18 March, 6.30pm (doors at 6pm) at GMAC (Trongate 103).

At the meeting we will:

🔹 provide a clear update on the situation

🔹talk about how this impacts GMAC and our work

🔹outline the strategic steps ahead

🔹discuss how people can support

This meeting is open to alumni, artists, partners, industry colleagues and anyone who cares about the future of cultural space in Glasgow.

We expect a busy evening and will accommodate as many people as possible within the safe capacity of the space; please RSVP via the link in our bio in advance.

This is about community, solidarity and protecting the spaces that make Glasgow’s creative life possible. We hope to see you there ✊

Here's one from the archive 🎬

We're incredibly proud to have been telling stories, making films, and changing lives for so long. Having the backing of such established industry voices in this 2017 video sums up exactly what makes GMAC great to this day. It reminds us how valued we are by the community, and why it's vital we continue our amazing work.

Tomorrow night we’re hosting a talk and film screening with filmmaker Jeanne Bøe, organised by the Scottish Norwegian Society.

It’s just one of more than a dozen events from independent filmmakers and organisations happening at GMAC this month.

Events like this really show how important our venue is to both the local and international film community. Our space brings people together to share work, learn from each other, and build connections.

If you’re interested, please check out the event. And if you support spaces like ours, please consider signing the petition to help save Trongate 103.

We have posted a statement on our website regarding recent developments at Trongate 103.

GMAC has been served notice to quit our space unless we accept a new lease with significantly increased costs within four weeks.

For almost four decades GMAC has been a home for filmmakers, young people and communities. Since 2009 that home has been at Trongate 103; a space designed and refurbished with public money with the express purpose of being a sustainable cultural hub.

We believe the public deserves to understand what is happening to cultural and creative spaces in our city.

Read the full statement via the link in our bio.

Thank you to everyone who has already shown support and solidarity. We are a tiny team, stretched to capacity, so it has meant the world.

Thank you to those who have rallied and taken action. We are so grateful. We are extremely grateful to Lauren Coleman who started a petition to support Trongate 103, all the tenants and the importance of that building to the sector and our communities. You can find the like to the petition in our bio as well.

More updates will be forthcoming when we have them.
