After hearing a busy shrew in the undergrowth, I investigated further to find two very busy shrews!
They were totally oblivious to me, giving the opportunity to watch some incredible views of a usually very secretive and intimate behaviour!
This is why wildlife is never dull!!

I am extremely lucky to live among some wonderful wildlife. There are Pine Martens in the woodlands all around me, but they are seldom seen. They are creatures of habit though and turn up similar places at predictable times. I have watched this young male often. He is very confident but always alert :)

A couple of short snorkelling trips in Achmelvich and Clachtoll bay revealed a huge amount of wildlife.
We managed to see thousands of juvenile Po***ck in both bays, as well as a large shoal of adults. There were also Corking wrasse, Lesser sand eels, Shore crabs, Velvet swimming crab, Square crab, Edible crabs, Hermit crab (riding on a starfish!), Beadlet anemones, Plaice, Seven-armed starfish. Another highlight was a small group of Harbour porpoise that came into Clachtoll bay and gave us incredible views as they fished very close to shore.
Cheers

Scotland's west coast can compete with anywhere in the world for the 'marine-scapes' and the wealth of wildlife that live there.
Just on the dive at Gairloch, we discovered Shore crabs eating a Plaice, Hermit crabs, a Flounder, a Fifteen-spined stickleback, many juvenile Po***ck, Corkwing wrasse, Common Sea Urchin, Beadlet anemones, Sea Orange sponges, feeding Barnacles.
Enjoy!

Gruinard Bay - Beneath the Waves
Above the waves, Gruinard Bay is know for its White-tailed eagles and unusual military history, but below the waves there is a host of wildlife that call the bay home!
On this snorkel trip we saw Common Urchins, Common Starfish, Spiny Starfish, Pollack, Corkwing Wrasse, Two-spotted Goby, Sea Lemon slug, Sea Toad, Dead Man's Fingers, Sea Mat.
Enjoy!
