Keswick Alhambra Cinema is one of the oldest, continuously-running cinemas in the UK. We've been screening films since we opened 1914, throughout both World Wars, stopped in our tracks only by Covid-19 in 2020 and 2021. During the closure we took the opportunity to complete the restoration of the cinema, and added a second studio sized screen, together with the latest Dolby sound and digital laser

projector, enabling us to show a significantly wider range of films with appeal to all ages. Independent and family owned and run, we aim to to give you a great experience in a gorgeous setting. We offer a choice of the latest blockbusters, together with niche and arthouse films, and a full range of live broadcasts from the National Theatre, West End shows, Royal Opera and Ballet and the Met Opera from New York.

When Rick (Paul Rudd), a past-his-prime wedding singer, meets fading boy-band star Danny (Nick Jonas) during a gig, the two bond over music and a late-night jam session. But when Danny turns one of Rick’s songs into the hit that reignites his career, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves - even if it means risking everything he cares about. From writer/director John Carney (Sing Street, Once), Power Ballad is a feel-good story about music, self-respect, friendship, and the price of ambition.

First screening of this latest play from National Theatre Live is tomorrow, Thursday 28th May at 7pm.
Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton) joins Éanna Hardwicke (The Sixth Commandment) and Siobhán McSweeney (Derry Girls and The Great Pottery Throwdown) in John Millington Synge’s riveting play of youth and self-discovery. Pegeen Flaherty’s life is turned upside down when a young man walks into her pub claiming that he’s killed his father. Instead of being shunned, the killer becomes a local hero and begins to win hearts, that is until a second man unexpectedly arrives on the scene… Filmed live on stage at the National Theatre, Caitríona McLaughlin directs this darkly funny tale full to the brim with secrets.

Screening from Friday next week for two weeks, a film we've seen and loved. Hugely entertaining and with lots of heart.

After a chance meeting and an innocent late-night jam, the boy-band star Danny Wilson (Nick Jonas) goes on to use an original, deeply personal song written by wedding singer Rick Power (Paul Rudd).

The song catapults Danny back into global stardom, leaving Rick with no credit and no legal standing to claim what is his. Infuriated and feeling robbed, Rick and his loyal bandmate embark on a frantic quest to prove ownership of the track.

More than just a revenge or heist story, the film is a heartfelt, funny exploration of artistic frustration and waylaid dreams. Is the reward of commercial success better thanthe quiet, grounding, and underappreciated joys of domestic and family life?
