It’s open studio Saturday tomorrow!!!

10am-3pm on the last Saturday of every month the studio is open for browsing and for a sip and stitch group! No booking necessary, stay for as much or as little of the opening times as you’d like, I’ll make you a cuppa, help yourself to a biscuit and bring a crafty project or pick a new one at the studio! I know some folks were keen to stay all day and have asked before, so to clarify… please feel free to bring yourself a packed lunch if you want to stay for the whole day 🥰

I’ve had a little move around at the studio, which means some of our stock is a little more accessible, and the charity book nook has moved to the other end of the studio where it’s much easier to get to too!

I am also having a major yarn destash this month! I have been ruthless with my much loved yarn stash that has been built up of mainly hand dyed yarn over the past 8 years, but my kiddos have been asking to go camping for the past 2 years and we’ve finally managed to convince the husband! So now I need to find the money to buy a tent and some camping basics! I’ve pulled out more than 100 skeins of hand dyed yarn, I’ve made up mini sets and there’s a little commercial yarn too! This is my own personal stash, nothing to do with the studio, so I can’t take card payments for it as it isn’t owned by my business, i see it as a tiny yarn carboot at work 😂 I can take cash or bank transfer for destash yarn and I’m not currently looking at selling any of it online, just in person. If it doesn’t sell, that’s ok, I still love it, I just love my kiddos more and I want that tent! So if it doesn’t sell I’ll be going back to the drawing board, and tucking it back into my stash! Destash yarn is in my opinion at bargain prices, around £12 per 100g with extra discounts on some sweater quantity bundles!

Please do come and join me for a crafty day, whether a yarn destash is your thing or not, you’re so welcome 🧶❤️

A little glow up ready for OPEN STUDIO SATURDAY THIS WEEKEND! Big thanks to my lovely hubby for building the big Kallax so that we could open up the space a little more!

The last Saturday of every month the studio is open 10am-3pm! We’re open for browsing but also for sip and stitch! The monthly Saturday sip and stitch group is always free of charge, rock up for as long as you want, bring a crafty project or grab a new one while you’re with me, I’ll get ya a cuppa and we’ll all have a good time ❤️

Thank you so much to everyone that has joined me for open studios since I’ve been opening for them, working on my own the majority of the time, these socials fill my cup like you wouldn’t believe 🥰

AND A LITTLE EXTRA ANNOUNCEMENT… I will be having a mega hand dyed yarn destash this open studio Saturday! My kiddos have been begging to go camping for the past 2 summers, we’ve finally managed to crack Chris and we’re saving up for a tent! So I’ve raided my stash and I am (slightly heartwrenchingly) putting together a destash for this Saturday that includes more than 100 skeins of hand dyed yarn! There’ll be more details of the destash tomorrow! Come along on Saturday to check it out!

WORKSHOP ANNOUNCEMENT!

10 days ago I jumped on here raving about mosaic crochet and if I’m honest I’m still raving about it 😂

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!

A little reminder that a large online following is not a signifier that an account is not run by AI AND that just because a knitting or crochet pattern designer doesn’t have a large following doesn’t mean they’re not a legit designer!

I find it really worrying when things like this are shared online, especially in our community where designers already have to fight to be paid fairly for their work, are often ripped off by larger commercial entities AND regularly have their content shared or reproduced for free and without credit!

Sharing misinformation just for more content and clicks can be really harmful, so to try and put a little balance back, I’ve shared a few indie designers with less than 50k insta followers in my video, and I’ll tag them in a comment below too!

PLEASE SHARE YOUR FAVOURITE INDIE DESIGNERS IN THE COMMENTS! ESPECIALLY IF THEY HAVE LESS THAN 50K FOLLOWERS!

Where has the sun gone! A couple of weeks ago I started a granny square project and sat in the sunshine watching the kids play on the park, crocheting to my hearts content.

Now it’s apparently winter again 🤦🏻‍♀️

Come back sunshine! Anyone else in the UK got summer? If you have send it to Suffolk pleeeeease 😂

What’s in the Studio Wednesday!

I’ve been stocking MUUD project bags, needle cases and accessories here in FOLK Yarn Studio for well over a year now and I thought today was a good day to come on here and chat about them! Items that I stock around my hand dyed yarn in the studio are products that I have worked with myself, fallen in love with and are items I have done my best to make sure are not already stocked by other businesses local to me, so that I can offer a range and variety in my lovely home town without ever treading on anyone’s toes 🥰

I’ve recently gotten my hands on some of their canvas print with leather accent products, and I am in love with both the cow and floral prints. I am down to the last few of this range left in the shop now, and I’m trying to resist the cow print project bag but my will power is wearing thin 😂

If you’re local to Lowestoft and want to have a look at what is stocked at the studio in person I do have open studio hours regularly. Check out the story highlight on our page for the upcoming open studio times and our knit and crochet stitch groups ❤️🧶❤️

You can find all the MUUD products I stock over on the FOLK Yarn Studio website, I hope you love them as much as I do!

Find them here…

Mosaic Crochet Class coming soon to FOLK Yarn Studio!

I had such a fun morning today with Jan, one of my lovely friends and a crochet rockstar! Jan has been crocheting for over 50 years! We worked on the overlay mosaic crochet technique, whilst I have been crocheting for a long time it’s not something I have ever attempted and I had so much fun!

The heart shown in the video is a pattern by Abi McIntyre and Jan has permission from the designer to use the pattern to teach this class, please do go check out patterns too because they are AWESOME!

I’ve been running my dye studio for 6 years now, first from my home and for the past 2 years from a studio space here in Lowestoft, I run my studio around the other side of my business, the organisation of my annual yarn show which is held every March in Norwich. Running workshops at the studio has been a plan of mine right from the beginning and I’m so excited that it’s all starting to come together!

Watch this space for more Mosaic crochet workshop news!

FOLK Yarn Studio workshops are available to book!

Well actually, they went live yesterday, and 8 wonderful crafters booked their places and sold out my first ever studio workshop 🥹 I had a couple of messages from folk letting me know they’d like a spot and that a weekend option would be their choice, so I’ve added a second date!

If you’d like to join me on 13th June 9.30am - 11.30am for the cottage garden dye studio workshop you can book your place over on the website now, you don’t need to know anything in advance or bring anything (other than perhaps an apron if you’re wearing clothes you don’t want to accidentally dye splatter). We will be applying dye cold at our large studio table and I will set the dye, wash, dry and twist your yarn after the class, which will then be ready to collect the following week (if you are based further away I can post your yarn for a small charge). You will be able to take part in this workshop from a standing or seated position, with no heavy lifting involved, just lots of fun! This class is designed with adults in mind, however anyone over the age of 12 can take part, though anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

You can find the listing to book your workshop spot on the studio website here…

I hope folks will be up for joining me at the studio in June!

I can’t believe it’s been 2 years since I first moved into a studio space! Time has flown by!

Last year I had to move to a new premises due to an unworkable situation in the first studio, but it’s all worked out for the best as the studio is now close to my home in Oulton and even bigger!

My lovely group of stitch nighters has grown, we now have a lovely little community that come to our weekly daytime and evening groups and once monthly open studio Saturdays!

Thank you so much to everyone that has been cheering me on along the way! I won’t pretend it hasn’t been a struggle, and often still is, but I’m loving it and there have been more lovely memories than I can count!

As it’s 2 years of studio today I’ve decided to try and be brave and I’ve listed my first studio workshop over on the website, go take a peek!!
