Would you like to earn some money for the summer by painting a forest?
For the last couple of months the University of Amsterdam has been working together
with David Wasch ( Movie theater Kriterion/ Student at Rietveld) and a local resident
(Urban designer) to come up with a design for a fence (at the buildingsite) along the
Roetersstraat. This fence will be there for the next 2 years during which the University is
building the new Roeterseilandcampus.
The original idea for the design is to make the Roetersstraat more “green” by painting
a forest (trees, bushes, animals and everything that you would expect in a forest). By
adding some wooden figures of animals, birdhouses and plants we hope to achieve a
beautiful view. Local residents will help us by giving these wooden figures some colour,
but we are also searching for a few talented (art) painters that can help us by painting
the trees of the forest.
What kind of a tree, will be up to you. However we do have some restrictions in use
of colour and size. We will provide the art equipment like brushes and paint. In the
background (which is in a base colour) will be range of tree-trunks, painted with
the help of a template. The trees painted by you will be on the forefront. Further
explanations will be given by David.
We are expecting it will take up to 2 days to finish the painting of your design on the site
fence. David can help you by giving each of you a task. The work must be done in the
weekend of the 1th and 2nd of June.
Each artist will receive a compensation of € 150,-- for 2 days work and the completion
of an image from 3 to 2.20 m. Would you like to make something larger, just let David
know. It might be possible. If you are only available for 1 day you will receive € 75,--.
Just ask David about the possibilities. We need about 10 to 12 artists.
The compensation for your work will be transferred to your bank
account after the work is done. We will be needing your name, date
of birth, social security number and your bank account number.
This is a great opportunity to participate in a very nice (citizen) initiative. On the 5 th
of June there will be a festive event to reveal your artwork and the contribution of
the local residents. Would it not be great to see your piece of art on the fence at the
Roetersstraat for the next two years?
We hope you will join our project!
