Evil Dead Burn was a really good movie, and honestly, I think it’s my favorite of the modern Evil Dead films.
One thing I’ve noticed about the newer Evil Dead movies is that they’ve moved away from the horror-comedy blend that made the originals so unique. The modern films lean much harder into straight horror, and while I do miss some of that dark humor, Evil Dead Burn does such a good job at what it’s trying to be that I didn’t find myself missing it very much.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I actually enjoyed this one more than the previous film.
The first thing that grabbed me was the cinematography. Right from the opening scenes, the movie looks fantastic. The lighting, camera angles, shot composition, and overall atmosphere are exactly what you want from a horror film. Everything feels carefully crafted. It’s one of those movies where you can tell the filmmakers knew exactly what kind of experience they wanted to create, and they executed it well.
What really kept me invested, though, was the storytelling. This isn’t a mystery where you’re trying to figure out what’s going on. The movie tells you pretty early what kind of nightmare you’re dealing with. The tension comes from watching the characters navigate that nightmare and seeing how far they’re willing to go to survive. The film does a great job of making you care about what happens next. You’re not sitting there trying to solve a puzzle—you’re sitting there rooting for the characters, hoping they’ll make it through, and wanting to see them fight back.
And when those moments finally come, the movie delivers.
The horror is intense, the action is satisfying, and the practical effects and makeup work are excellent. I’m not a huge fan of gore just for the sake of gore, but here it felt earned. The violence serves the story and helps reinforce the brutality of what the characters are facing rather than feeling like cheap shock value.
Overall, Evil Dead Burn is a well-made horror thriller with great visuals, strong performances, effective scares, and enough heart to make you genuinely care about the people caught in the chaos.
For me, Evil Dead Burn earns a solid 4 out of 5 stars.
If you’re a horror fan, it’s definitely worth checking out. Watch it and let me know what you think. And as always, thanks for tuning in to The Best Movie Critic Ever!
