In recognition of AAPI Heritage Month, I want to share this set made for a Red Egg party, a traditional Chinese celebration (as well in other Asian cultures). In the olden days, Chinese custom considered 100 days in an infant’s life special because of the high mortality rate. Infants who reached 100 days were believed to have surpassed the danger zone.
Eggs were considered a delicacy in China and were usually the present brought by the maternal grandmother when visiting the baby. The egg symbolizes fertility and renewal of life, and when it is dyed red, it is believed to bring good luck to the child.
Happy AAPI Heritage Month!
