When I watch The Punisher s1 e3 recently Franks statement about pain just being stimulus and the real torture being constantly having to deal with grief gave me new insight into another scene in Daredevil Born Again s1 e9. The scene is of him being beaten by The Task Force when they are trying to recruit him. Frank sees them as "a bunch of clowns" and he stated "I'd [expletive] p**s on you if you were on fire".
Frank despises bad people and wants to murder any he can. But his relationship with pain is that he doesn't care about brief physical pain. He is perfectly fine with it and seems to invite it. Different interpretations of this could be that he likes to huet for his own existence, the horrible nightmare that he has to live every day. He could also use pain to distract from his daily pain. All in all Frank is a broken individual that is tormented by grief and has a great desire to end the existence of every terrible person he encounters.
