A little sappy, but being a girl dad has changed me as a creative.

I spend a good bit of time wondering if I actually know what I’m doing no matter how much I improve. But I’ll tell you something ... there is nothing more encouraging for a bride’s father to come up to me and tell me how much of a great job I’m doing. Without even seeing a single frame of footage, he’s confident that I’m already knocking it out of the park and he’s excited for his little girl.

Y’all ... I can’t even. It gives me creative life and pushes me to carry on when things are heavy. Family can be hard and complicated. It’s painful sometimes. This day can unfortunately highlight significant wounds (even for me as a spectator / vendor). The importance of born and chosen family can’t be understated on your wedding day.

And shout out to all the dads that have treated me like family along the way!!

The Fushi’s had two back to back wedding ceremonies on two back to back days. One of them was for the closest friends and family. The second one was for Kayla’s ailing father. Once they knew it was time to get married, they quickly made plans for these two ceremonies so that he could attend.

One of my favorite little traditions…

While the dance floor is filling up and the cake is being served, I quietly disappear for a bit and build something special from the moments that just happened hours earlier.

Then… I hand it back to the bride before the night is even over.

This is her watching pieces of her wedding day for the very first time — the moments she felt, the moments she missed, and the moments she’ll get to keep forever.

Days like this move fast.
Sometimes the fastest part is realizing it’s already becoming a memory.

Getting to give couples a chance to relive it while they’re still in it will never get old to me.

One of the things that makes my films different: we go to the important places.

This is where these high school sweethearts got engaged.

And here they are: in their element. Enjoying the atmosphere and each other. They had their dog with them too, who’s also in the final film!

This is the way I love to do things: not overly posed or staged. Just raw, real and natural. You as you are.

This keeps me up at night. It keeps me hopeful for the future. It makes me excited to create something that my children will one day cherish. That’s why I do this. That’s what makes all the stress, the sleepless nights and the long days worth it.

This is more than a job. This is legacy. This is showing my children a better way forward.
