In 3 weeks, at the 96th The Academy awards, Matteo Garrone’s “Me Captain » (Io Capitano) runs for Best International Feature Film.

This is Italy’s 30th nomination in the foreign film category, 11 of which won the golden statue. No other foreign country claims such record.

« Io Capitano » tracks the journey of two young men from Senegal, Seydou and Moussa, who leave Dakar to seek a new life in Europe.

As Garrone stated, it’s a “contemporary Odyssey” depicting “an epic journey, where life is at risk to seek a better future, to fulfill a dream.”

Congratulations Matteo! We cross fingers for you! Looking forward to the Academy Awards ceremony on March 10th!

Today Saturday 11/25 at 7:30 pm PST at Academy Museum of Motion Pictures last title of the exclusive series “Ennio Morricone: Essential Scores from a Movie Maestro” presented by Cinecittà and Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, “Once upon a Time in America” (1984) by the legendary Sergio Leone, starring ROBERT DE NIRO, James Woods, Elizabeth McGovern, Treat Williams.

The final film from Sergio Leone is a gorgeously crafted epic about four boys raised in New York’s Jewish slums in the early part of the 20th century who grow up to be gangsters. Robert De Niro and James Woods star as their adult incarnations, whose lives are marked by betrayal and unexpected twists of fate. Leone’s film was originally released in the US in a severely truncated form, but his expansive original vision has since been restored. Ennio Morricone’s achingly emotional score, a worthy final collaboration between the two filmmakers, features pan flute solos performed by Gheorghe Zamfir.

Advance tickets are no longer available, standby tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tomorrow Saturday 11/18 at 7:30 pm PST at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Dario Argento’s cult “The Bird with the Crystal Plumage” featuring Maestro Ennio Morricone’s iconic score, part of the exclusive series “Ennio Morricone: Essential Scores from a Movie Maestro” presented by and Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

The feature directorial debut of legendary horror filmmaker Dario Argento is a stylish (of course!) mystery thriller about an American writer (Tony Musante) in Rome who finds himself stalked by a killer after trying to save a young woman from a brutal attack. A key film in the giallo canon of Italian thriller cinema, it boasts striking widescreen cinematography by three-time Oscar winner Vittorio Storaro. The first of five Argento films scored by Ennio Morricone, its wordless vocals helped define the musical voice of giallo.

Tomorrow Saturday 11/18 at 2:30 pm PST at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures “Allonsanfàn” by the Taviani Brothers featuring Ennio Morricone’s music, part of the exclusive series “Ennio Morricone: Essential Scores from a Movie Maestro” presented by Cinecittà and Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

The iconic Marcello Mastroianni stars in this surreal 19th century–set period piece as the political revolutionary Fulvio, a man of nobility who, in his advanced age, is second-guessing his commitment to anarchism. As directed by celebrated filmmaking brothers Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, Mastroianni remains grounded as the complex libertine whose fears of judgement by his comrades during the Italian Unification see him reluctantly sticking to the cause, at odds with his selfish desire to retire in comfort and leisure among high society. The stunning visuals, lensed by Giuseppe Ruzzolini (Teorema), are complimented by Ennio Morricone’s rousing score, the main theme of which will be immediately recognizable to fans of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds (2009).

Tomorrow Saturday 11/11 at 2:30 pm PST at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Bernardo Bertolucci's timeless masterpiece “1900” (Novecento, 1976) featuring Maestro Ennio Morricone’s musical composition, part of the exclusive series “Ennio Morricone: Essential Scores from a Movie Maestro” presented by Cinecittà and Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

Bernardo Bertolucci’s epic period drama about childhood friends Alfredo (Robert De Niro) and Olmo (Gérard Depardieu) as viewed across a widening class divide in mid-century Italy finds composer Ennio Morricone incorporating melodies by the beloved Giuseppe Verdi, whose death coincides with the births of both protagonists at the start of the 20th century. One of the longest films ever released commercially in both the US and internationally, “1900” sweeps across four decades in the lives of landowner Alfredo and peasant farmer Olmo, and boasts an impressive international cast, supported by Dominique Sanda, Burt Lancaster, and silent film actor Francesca Bertini in her final role.
