The Devil We Know is an unforgettable film that we are thrilled to bring to communities and classrooms across North America. Unraveling one of the biggest environmental scandals of our time, it documents a group of citizens in West Virginia who take on a powerful corporation (DuPont) after they discover it has knowingly been dumping a toxic chemical - now found in the blood of 99.7% of Americans - into the drinking water supply.

Check out the trailer and let us know if you'd like to be the one to bring it to your community.

"In a lot of ways, her story is emblematic. And I just hope that people who see the film can get that from her and fall in love with her in the way that we have, but also see her struggle and be as outraged as we are that she’s having to cope with all of these challenges."

Media is a central tool for social change and filmmakers, activists and funders are working more closely together than ever before. Things can get tricky!

UnionDocs has announced a new day-long intensive workshop PARTNERING FOR IMPACT, led by Active Voice Lab Founder Ellen Schneider, that will outline how to ask the right questions when partnering with funders and organizations to support your work (and theirs!). Participants will come away with a solid foundation on which to build productive future partnerships through role-playing and candid interactions with a lineup of seasoned guest instructors including Leslie Fields-Cruz (Executive Director at Black Public Media), Michèle Stephenson (Director, American Promise), and Kirsten Kelly (Director, The Homestretch).

See you there? Register now:

This workshop is designed to bridge the communication gaps between documentary filmmakers and advocacy groups. Here, we will also synthesize ways filmmakers can continue to make the films they want, without sacrificing the money they want to make.
