Today is Veterans day, on the 11th Day of the 11th Month at the 11th Hour, the war that was called "The War to end all Wars" ended. Since that day, Nov 11th has been the day to honor all who wore the uniform in service of this Country. While Shoot The Guns is focused on the hardware that was used, never forget about the men who served and those who never came home.

If you haven't carefully studied the candidates positions on the issues, Don't Vote. If you have limited knowledge of history and base your opinions on what you "feel" rather than on sober, informed consideration of what will be best for our nation 100 years from now, then spend ALL of today shopping. Just don't vote! If you'd cast your vote based on a candidates appearance ... or gender ... or what some du***ss celebrity said about them, Stay the F--- Home! This country's already been thoroughly screwed up by unethical, self-serving politicians who were put into office by low information voters. If you insist on letting the corrupt media lead you around like a blind puppy on a leash, then on November 8th stay the f**k home. Don't vote! You'll only make a bad situation worse.

9/11/01, my generations Pearl Harbor, for a short period of time our country pulled together, until the media decided it would not show people who jumped from the towers, then the politicians decided to no longer support our troops, now the Govt is bending over backwards not to offend the very people who attacked us. The Pearl Harbor generation took care of their problem by pulling together and destroying those who attacked them. This generation stuck it's head up its ass and hopes the problem will go away.

Memorial Day is to honor those that gave all in the name of freedom, one of those was from the area south of the Valley of the Sun, a Pima Indian by the name of Ira Hayes. A shy boy who later became a US Marine who fought in some of the toughest battles in the Pacific, Hayes is known for what he did on the island of Iwo Jima, he along with his fellow Marines fought to the top of Mount Suribachi and raised the Stars and Stripes for all those below to see. It seems like a simple act to raise a flag, but in this case it cost many lives to get to the top of the mountain and when those down below saw the Flag flying in the wind, a cheer was heard and the moral on the island flew as high as the Flag. Ira Hayes was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions and sent home to tell the story of what happened on Iwo Jima. Hayes is also honored in the Valley of the Sun, but the majority of the people who live there don't know it. To the southwest of Phoenix lies the Sierra Estrella mountains, and the tallest peak of the mountain is named Hayes Peak, so you could say that Ira Hayes is keeping watch over the place he called Home.
