SOUTH BAY COMMUNITY CHANGE PROJECT

This project uses the IPS Approach to change conditions that contribute to alcohol and other drug abuse and thereby enhance quality of life in the southwestern region of San Diego County. These include the “Yes We Can” group that is working to curb youth access to alcohol at Sleep Train Amphitheatre, a major entertainment venue in the City of Chula Vista andth

e “Safety First” community group, which is concerned about problematic bars causing crime and disorder in local neighborhoods. The project also sponsors a local youth group, the South Bay Youth 4 Change, which has worked extensively with law enforcement on shoulder tap operations, DUI checkpoints, and minor decoy operations.Recent accomplishments include passing a Responsible Beverage Service ordinance for the city of Chula Vista, updating a Social Host ordinance in the city of Imperial Beach, and preventing liquor sales at a youth-oriented movie theatre in National City.
