The Arc of Bell County is a non-profit organization that offers a fun night every Thursday from 6:00-7:30 at Wilson Rec. Center in Temple, 2205 Curtis B Elliott Dr. for ages 14 & up. 14-18 year old clients will need to have an adult stay with them. We have arts/crafts, bingo, movies, game room and vari

ous activities in the gym. Sometimes it is open gym, basketball or volleyball. We have special activities such as Halloween and Valentines Dances with a DJ and food provided by the nursing students from UMHB. We have a bowling activity in Killeen and those who participate are invited to a banquet sponsored by the Elks Lodge in Temple. The American Legion in Temple sponsors a Christmas Party with hotdogs, Santa Claus and goodie bags. The Arc of Bell County also supports and sponsors the ARC Buccaneers which is our Special Olympic team. Sports we participate in are bowling, bocce ball, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, track/field, swimming and tennis. If you have a client interested in participating in Special Olympics she will need to have physical and have a current medical form on file with Special Olympics Texas. These are good for 3 years and we can give you the form. We look forward to hearing back from you and hope you'll attend a fun night for more details.

ATTN: SWIMMING LESSONS
(This is not sponsored by the ARC of Bell County)

The City of Temple is offering Special Needs Swim Lessons for Youth (Age 6-13) and Adults (Age 13 & up) with intellectual disabilities on June 1 - 11 and July 13 - 23 at Clark Pool. The class times will be from 6 p.m. - 6:45 p.m. for youth, and 7 p.m. - 7:45 p.m. for adults. The cost for the classes is $70. The class size is a maximum of 6 students. You can register for the classes on-line at the City of Temple Parks and Recreation website under the Aquatics section or you can register by contacting Sammons Park Indoor Pool at 254-298-5920. Keith Maxwell, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI), will be teaching the class and has over 10 years teaching special needs swim lessons and has taught swim lessons as a WSI for over 45 years. Aida Sapp, WSI, will be teaching with Keith during the first session and she has over 10 years teaching special needs swim lessons and has taught swim lessons as a WSI for over 45 years. The WSI for the second session has taught Special Needs classes with Keth in the past. You can contact Keith Maxwell at 254-217-0070 if you have questions about the class.

There will be lifeguards in the pool to assist in overseeing the safety of the students. Students must be able to remain in the swim lesson area within the pool since there are other classes being taught in the pool at the same time.
