Train For Tomorrow’s War.
You owe it to the person to your left and right to be the best possible version of yourself. Find your weak point and work to improve it. Don’t get complacent or comfortable where you are now.

Being a present leader is about genuinely connecting with your team on a human level. It means taking the time to get to know the people who work for you, understanding their challenges, putting them in positions to be successful, and then celebrating when they do succeed. When a leader is truly there in the moment, it creates a sense of trust and camaraderie. People feel seen and heard, which boosts their confidence and motivation. This kind of leadership isn’t just about checking boxes or hitting targets; it’s about building relationships and developing others to be better leaders in the future. By being present, you’re showing that you care, and that makes all the difference. I’ve always been told, “You’re always training your replacement, and to do so, you have to be present.”

Today, we remember the profound impact of September 11, 2001. We honor the lives lost, the bravery of first responders, and the resilience of survivors and their families. On this day, we stand united in reflection and remembrance, cherishing the strength and unity that emerged from such tragedy. Never forget. To those that serve their community day in and day out I thank you for your unwavering bravery everyday putting on the uniform and headed in to the unknown.

SELF-DOUBT
Overcoming self-doubt requires building confidence in your abilities and fostering a positive mindset for both yourself and your team. It’s essential to truly understand yourself. This might sound obvious, but the real challenge is knowing who you are when things don’t go as planned. How do you react in those moments? Every day, strive to achieve goals that help you become a better version of yourself. Don’t let thoughts like “I’m too short,” “I’m too small,” “I’m too weak,” or “I’m not smart enough” hold you back. These are excuses that others before you have chosen to ignore, opting instead to step up and not let them hinder their progress.

Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who are invested in your success and willing to push you to improve, and reciprocate by supporting their growth as well. Remember that nobody is perfect; mistakes are part of the learning and growth process. Embrace taking risks and learning from failures.

Building confidence and overcoming self-doubt is a gradual journey. Be patient with yourself and take the time to celebrate even the small victories along the way. WE WILL

One day a good friend of mine asked me a series of questions different than I usually get. He asked, “Were you actually scared while in fire fights?” My answer was “Yes, and if anyone said they weren’t they are lying to you.” His next question was “ If you were scared, how did you manage to get yourself to perform in combat even though you were scared” My answer to this is two fold. First, just accept that what happens is 100% out of your control, once you let go of control it becomes easier to accept things. Secondly, during training you train your mind and body to react to what the enemy does. So, your training kicks in and you react without applying a deliberate decision making process. (See what I did there guys) But also your sense of duty to your brothers. If you cower away and don’t perform someone has to pick up the slack to fill the void. That is what puts people’s lives in danger, when you are not performing your duties during combat, someone will have to make up for that. That’s when it gets dangerous. For me I’d be damned to let that happen and I would never put my brothers in that position. So, yes, I was terrified and scared for my own life but I’d rather die doing my job than my brothers dying to making up for what I failed to do. You can apply this same sense of duty to everything you do. Be an asset not a liability.
