One of the largest and long-running showcases of Latin America cinema returns to AFI Silver Sept. 16th for its 37th year with 44 films from 21 countries.

Highlights include:
🔸Opening Night film THE MATCH, the acclaimed Cannes Film Festival selection recounting the infamous 1986 World Cup match between Argentina and England, followed by a reception hosted by Embassy of Argentina in the United States

So many wonderful people volunteer to make Filmfest DC a success each year. Our thoughts to friends and family.

We are saddened to share the passing of a beloved member of the Filmfest DC community, Donné Malloy-Murray.

For over 20 years, Donné volunteered with Filmfest DC as a theater manager and became someone our staff could always count on. If you joined us for an Opening Night screening over the years, there's a good chance you crossed paths with her.

Donné was kind, dependable, and helped ensure even our busiest nights of screenings ran smoothly. Our staff loved working alongside her, and we are incredibly grateful not only for her time, but also for her friendship.

Donné will be dearly missed. We send our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones, and we'll remember her with gratitude each Opening Night to come.

Another talented artist passes on..Oscar nominee Brenda Fricker

Irish actress Brenda Fricker, who won an Oscar for her role in 1989 film My Left Foot and had well-loved parts in Home Alone 2 and TV's Casualty, has died at the age of 81.
