AAHMA African American Home Movie Archive was created by Jasmyn R. Castro in 201. Archiving African-American history and culture through home movies.

The portrayal of African Americans in film has been much debated since the advent of the moving image. One of which being that African Americans must be owners of media in order to be well represented in the media. There is no better demonstration of this than what is depicted in the numerous home movies shot by African Americans during the heyday of the 8mm and Super 8mm formats. These home movie

s are historically significant and should be seen as a preservation priority because they are a moving image record of African American home and social life at different points in time. Their scattered existence is just one of the reasons increased scholarly research is needed to help foster access to these everyday depictions of minority communities.
