Our morning started at a tiny chapel, all peaceful and innocent. Ten minutes later the trail decided we clearly hadn’t suffered enough and pointed straight up the cliff! Every step came with a free reminder not to look down, but the reward at the top was worth every wobbly leg. Standing high above the Pacific, with the waves crashing far below and Todos Santos stretching behind us, we agreed on one thing… the view was incredible, but our knees were filing a formal complaint on the walk back down.

Todos Santos is a wonderfully small town… unless your sat nav decides today is the perfect day to go on holiday. We spent what should have been a five minute drive doing the scenic grand tour, circling the same streets while muttering, “I’m sure we’ve seen that taco shop three times already.” Then, just as we were ready to ask a cactus for directions, there it was. The beautiful blue building with its spectacular cactus standing proudly outside, looking as if it had been waiting all along while quietly enjoying our accidental sightseeing adventure. 🌵

Las Vegas served up the perfect escape with a day trip to Nelson Ghost Town, and what a drive it was. Every mile came with another postcard view, and by the time we arrived we were surrounded by vintage cars, rusty trucks and weathered old buildings, each with a story that probably gets taller every time it’s told. This retro beauty stole the show for us, and we couldn’t leave without taking it home… in photo form, of course. It’s now available in our Etsy shop if you’d like to give it a parking space on your wall.

Grocery shopping in Seligman isn’t your average supermarket sprint. We wandered in for milk, snacks and a few essentials, then somehow spent just as long admiring Route 66 memorabilia and chatting with the locals. Even the shopping baskets seem to have a story to tell. We left with everything on the list… plus a couple of things that definitely weren’t. Apparently that’s just how the Wild West handles grocery shopping.

Sometimes dreams really do come true. We rolled into Seligman expecting Route 66 nostalgia and somehow ended up meeting the King himself. Elvis was looking surprisingly good, happily posing for photos and proving that rock ‘n’ roll clearly has no expiry date. We didn’t ask too many questions about how he’d escaped the history books. On Route 66, it’s probably best not to ruin the magic. Long live the King… and long live small towns that make you believe anything is possible.

We left Prescott with coffee in hand and no real plan other than following Route 66 until something interesting happened. Seligman understood the assignment. One minute we were admiring classic cars, the next we were wondering if we’d accidentally travelled back to the 1950s. Every shop had something we “definitely didn’t need” but somehow almost bought. By the end of the day our camera was full, our legs were tired, and we were already arguing over which diner served the best pie. Route 66 has a funny way of turning an ordinary drive into a story you’ll be telling long after the road disappears.

Started the morning in Las Vegas armed with coffee, sandwiches and absolutely no sensible plans. We pointed the car towards the Extraterrestrial Highway with one important mission: find aliens, locate Area 51, and politely ask if they validate parking. After miles of empty desert, suspiciously quiet roads and enough caffeine to power a small spaceship, we were convinced every distant rock was an undercover UFO. Sadly, no little green visitors appeared, but our sandwiches survived the journey, which is probably the biggest miracle of the day.

Which photo makes you smile the most? We can’t decide!

Somewhere along the Extraterrestrial Highway we stumbled across a giant alien standing guard outside what looked suspiciously like his storage locker. We’re not saying little green men use self storage, but where else do you keep flying saucers, spare antennas and that collection of “Welcome Earthlings” signs? Judging by the size of the place, someone has definitely been decluttering the galaxy.

After miles of empty desert, endless straight roads and wondering if we’d accidentally driven onto another planet, we finally reached the legendary Area 51 back gate. Standing there was the famous sign shouting, “Keep Out!” We weren’t planning on sneaking in anyway. We’re fairly sure the aliens had already clocked us miles back. So we grabbed a few photos, admired one of the most secretive places on Earth from a very safe distance, and called it the perfect ending to an out of this world day on the ET Highway.

The Extraterrestrial Highway delivered today. Endless desert, strange signs, not a single traffic jam unless you count a tumbleweed crossing without looking. Sadly, even the aliens clock off eventually, so it was time to point the car back towards Las Vegas. It’s a long drive home, giving us plenty of time to wonder if that last UFO was real… or just another suspiciously shiny camper van.
