DANILO'S MOVIE REVIEWS: "WEAPONS" (2025) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Zach Cregger's bone-chilling brilliant film is a slow-burn at first but soon turns into an electrifying twisted horror show. It concerns the mysterious disappearance of 17 children from an elementary school class, who for some unknown reason all run out of their homes one night and vanish without a trace. This incident leaves the town in total shock with the angry patients blaming the compassionate homeroom teacher, Justine Gandy, brilliantly played by Julia Garner, who is completely innocent and desperate to clear her name. Only one child named Alex, wonderfully played by Cary Christopher, did not leave his home that night and shows up in the morning in Gandy's class. The enraged and devastated father of one of the missing children, Archer Graff, marvelously played with conviction by Josh Brolin, demands answers from Gandy and the police and is hellbent on finding his son. What follows is a suspenseful and scary odyssey that becomes a living nightmare for all when they discover that a malevolence presence is behind the tragic event. Astute direction by Cregger, who also wrote the clever and intriguing script. Phenomenal emotionally powerful performances from Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Austin Abrams, and Amy Madigan in an unforgettable scene-stealing turn. The most original and one of the finest films of 2025. Highly recommended.

MOVIE REVIEW: "THE LONG WALK" (2025) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Frances Lawrence's brutally gripping motion picture that is an uncompromisingly powerful cinematic adaptation of Stephen King's novel. About dark dystopian America of the near-future that is ruled by a totalitarian military regime, where each year teenage boys are forced to participate in the 'Long Walk' a deadly reality show in which they must maintain a steady walking speed of three miles per hour or they will shot and killed on the spot until only one contestant remains. Superlative direction by Lawrence, who gives his film plenty of pulse-pounding suspense and shocking gory violence, emotionally charged stellar performances from Cooper Hoffman, David Johnsson, and Garrett Wareing, with special kudos to Mark Hamill for his chilling performance as sadistic Major. Excellent cinematography by Jo Williams, with an engrossing screenplay by JT Moliner. A truly disturbing film that is one of this year's best. Highly recommended.

MOVIE REVIEW: “F1” (2025) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Joseph Kosinski’s dazzling and engaging motion picture epic about Formula One racing. It concerns a retired veteran F1 driver named Sonny Hayes, brilliantly played by Brad Pitt at his charismatic best, who is called on by his old friend and former F1 teammate Ruben Carvantes, wonderfully played by Javier Bardem, to drive his Formula One car and team up with his young talented rookie driver, Joshua Pearce, sensationally played by Damson Idris, to help him save his racing company APXgp from being sold by the board investors. What follows is a compelling human drama mixed with spectacular racing sequences that are truly breathtaking. Skillful direction by Kosinski, with magnificent cinematography by Claudio Miranda that is absolutely astonishing, and a rousing original score by Hans Zimmer that enhances the film’s excitement. Hands down one of the most entertaining films of this year. Highly recommended.

MOVIE REVIEW: "FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS" (2025) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Matt Skakman's intelligent, highly enjoyable sci-fi comic book film which without doubt the best movie adaptation of Marvel Comics iconic and beloved superhero team The Fantastic Four. This compelling retro-futuristic movie takes place during the 1960s, where four American space heroes who were altered by comic radiation during a space mission, they returned to Earth with amazing super powers. Reed Richards the leader of the team has the ability to stretch his body to any length, Sue Storm the wife of Richards has the ability to became invisible and generate a powerful force field, Johnny Storm the insecure younger brother of Sue who has the ability to fly and become a human flaming torch, and Ben Grimm Reed's best friend has been mutated into a massive orange stone humanoid with enormous super human strength, they become the superhero team known as The Fantastic Four. These characters are vividly brought to life by the exceptional and endearing performances by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The Fantastic Four must now defend the Earth from a merciless world eating space God called Galactus, marvelously played by the great character actor Ralph Ineson, and his powerful Herald, Silver Surfer, wonderfully played by Julia Garner, who arrives on Earth to inform the people that her master Galactus is coming to devour their world. What follows is an engaging and entertaining genre motion picture that is one of the year’s finest. Astute direction by Skakman, with a clever and amusing script by Josh Friedman, and striking cinematography by Jess Hall, magnificent production design by Kara Farahani, and sensational CGI visual effects. One of the years best films. Highly recommended.

MOVIE REVIEW: "SWALLOWED" (2022) ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Cater Smith's compelling LGBTQ body horror thriller is an interesting and at times intense film. It concerns two best friends, Benjamin, superbly played by the handsome Cooper Koch, and Dom, wonderfully played by the heavily tattooed Jose Colon, who are out celebrating their last night together before Benjamin leaves to Los Angeles to become a gay p**n star. Dom takes Benjamin on a drug run to give him some big money as a going away present, but things go horribly wrong when they are forced at gunpoint by the drug dealer, Alice, well played Jena Malone, to swallow large bugs wrapped in condoms which are to be delivered to her creepy boss, Rich, a murderous gay queen, chillingly played by Mark Patton in an impressive performance. On route they stop at a roadside public restroom where Dom is punched in the gut by a homophobic redneck causing the condom in him to break which makes the bug bite him, giving Dom great pain. These bugs that Benjamin and Dom are carry inside them secretly sale on the black market for thousands of dollars because their bite causes an erotic head trip, paralysis, and maintains your p***s er****on for 9 hours. When they finally reach the cabin things get even worse with the helpless Dom in agony, and the psychotic queen Rich trying to seduce the sexy Ben. What follows will be a deadly cat and mouse game of survival. Solid direction by Smith, with excellent performances from the cast, Cooper Koch and Jose Colon have a tender chemistry that feels real. A well-crafted film with striking cinematography by Alexander W. Lewis. Highly recommended

NOTE: Some graphic full frontal male nudity.

MOVIE REVIEWS: "28 YEARS LATER" (2025) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Danny Boyle's impressive and gripping return to the zombie saga he originated is an unnerving odyssey of horror. Taking place some 28 years after the 'rage virus' devastated the world and turned most of it's population into murderous flesh-eating monsters. In an isolationist community on a island in the Highlands of Scotland, a 12 year old boy name Spike, wonderfully played by Alfie Williams, who loves and idolizes his tough father, Jamie, sensationally played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, goes on a hunt outside the confines and safety of their gated community, and into the open range of land filled with killer rage virus zombies. What Spike will experience with his father will be one near deadly encounter with the infected rage virus zombies after another. When Jamie and Spike return to their community they are hailed as heroes, but trouble so begins because of Spike's seriously ill mother Isla, superbly played by Jodie Comer. Spike has a falling out with his father who he thinks does care about his mother grave condition. Spike secretly leaves the community with his ailing mother to find a doctor that he heard about that lives alone many miles away in an area that is heavily infested with many different types of infected rage virus zombies, which includes the massive 'Alpha" zombie, a heavily muscled killer with superhuman strength that is almost unstoppable. What follows will be a pulse-pounding and suspenseful journey with Spike and Isla through many life threatening dangers. Astute directed by Danny Boyle, with a compelling screenplay by Alex Garland, and striking cinematography by Anthony Dod Mantle. Special kudos to Ralph Fiennes for his brilliant performance as the mysterious Dr. Kelson. An intelligent and poetic horror film that plays like an arthouse motion picture. Highly recommended.

MOVIE REVIEWS: "FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES" (2025) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Zach Lipovasky and Adam B. Stein's diabolical action-packed horror spectacle is a rollercoaster thrill ride of gasp-inducing suspense and moments of pure terror. It begins in the 1960s where a teenage girl named Iris, wonderfully played by Brec Bassinger, has a recurring nightmare of a massive tower restaurant collapse where hundreds of people are killed, but she lives through it. Her granddaughter in the present Stefani Reyes, superbly played by Kaitlyn Santa Juan, has the same recurring nightmare and later discovers that she has inherited this power of premonition from her grandmother. What follows is a deadly game of cat and mouse as Stefani and her family try to survive by breaking the cycle as death comes calling for each of them. Solid direction by Lipovasky and Stein, who make this horror epic emotionally compelling and visually striking, with horrific and inspired kill sequences that are jaw-dropping. Excellent supporting performances from Gabrielle Rose, Teo Briones, Rya Kihlstedt, Richard Harmon, Anna Love, and Owen Patrick Joyner. In his final screen appearance the late great veteran genre actor Tony Todd delivers an impressive performance filled with gravitas as the creepy mortician William John Bludworth. This is the sixth film in the long-running horror franchise and it is also one of the best. Highly recommended.

MOVIE REVIEW: "THE MONKEY" (2025) ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Osgood Perkins' blood-soaked horror film with a wicked sense of dark humor is one of the best Stephen King adaptations which is based on one of his short stories. It concerns twin brothers Bill and Hal, superbly played by Christian Convery in an impressive dual performance, who find a mysterious toy monkey that use to belong to their late father, they soon discover that this evil toy has deadly powers and can tigger untimely and gruesome deaths to anyone. The brothers decide to get rid of the sinister toy and move on with their lives, they draft apart. But many years later the malevolent monkey returns and begins its reign of terror again claiming new victims in a series of brutal deaths. Astute direction by Perkins who is the son of the late great Anthony Perkins the star of Alfred Hitchcock's Gothic horror classic Psycho. Osgood blend dark comedy with supernatural horror and makes it gory fun that is wildly entertaining. Exceptional supporting performances by Theo James, Tatiana Mislay, Colin O' Brien, Adam Scot, Elijah Wood, Osgood Perkins, and Tess Degenstein. A polished and well-made horror motion picture. Highly recommended.

MOVIE REVIEW: "SUPERMAN" (2025) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

James Gunn's reimagining of Superman is visually stunning and a very enjoyable, entertaining genre epic. The story concerns Superman facing major public backlash that becomes a crisis which is orchestrated by the sinister Lex Luthor, as his actions are questioned when he intervenes in global conflicts. Honestly I am surprised how much I loved this film, however one thing that I did not care for was the character of Lois Lane, played by Rachel Brosnahan in an passable performance, she was a total pain in the ass to Superman, and I found her very irritating. She did not have the chemistry that Margot Kidder had with Christopher Reeves, or Amy Adams had with Henry Cavill. Instead of supporting Superman she would criticize him with political bu****it, when he was just trying to save countless peoples lives in a foreign country by stopping an evil war that would have resulted in their brutal massacre. This film's greatest asset is David Corenswet who embodies the character of Superman wonderfully and will remind you of the late great Christopher Reeves' beloved portrayal of Superman in Richard Donner's 1978 classic original. Corenswet's compelling performance is indeed impressive and the heart of this film. Nicholas Hoult delivers a brilliant performance that is absolutely chilling as the twisted, envious, psychotic Lex Luthor, the billionaire arch-nemesis of Superman, he adds a nefariousness and insane jealously to his character's portrayal that is unforgettable. The rest of the cast were excellent too. The standouts are Eli Gathegi as the fascinating Mr. Terrific, Nathan Fillion's goofy Green Lantern, Isabela Merced's no nonsense Hawkgirl, and the scene-stealing unruly Superdog "Krypto" who is adorable and a total delight. Exceptional direction by Gunn, who gives his film magnificent CGI visual effects that are truly breathtaking, along with striking action sequences that are memorable. One of this year's finest films. Highly recommended.
