It’s with a heavy heart that we share the news that Film Harvest will be coming to an end.

For over 12 years, every week Film Harvest has been about so much more than just watching films. It’s been about bringing people together, discovering stories you might not otherwise see, and building a genuine sense of community around cinema. What started as a small idea grew into something truly special because of the support, curiosity, and passion of all of you.

Due to increased operating costs, it is no longer possible to continue Film Harvest in a sustainable way.

We know this will be disappointing news. Film Harvest has always been about its audience, and the community that has formed around it is something we’re incredibly proud of. Your support over the years, showing up, spreading the word, and embracing all kinds of films is what made it possible to present over 600 films.

We also want to acknowledge and thank all of the filmmakers, distributors, and associates who have been part of the journey. It’s been a privilege to bring these stories to regional audiences and to play a small role in connecting people with meaningful cinema.

We would also like to acknowledge Ron Siemiginowski, who passed away nearly 12 months ago. Ron was a valued supporter of Film Harvest, and we remain very grateful for his generosity.

While this chapter is coming to a close, we’re incredibly grateful for everything Film Harvest has achieved, and for everyone who has been part of it.

Thank you for being on this magical journey with us 💚

As Maitland battles mesothelioma, an aggressive cancer caused by asbestos exposure, his resolve to fight for his homeland and future generations only strengthens. Through striking cinematography and deeply personal storytelling, the film stands as a testament to the resilience of Banjima and their unbreakable bond with Country. Maitland and his family’s fight for justice, cultural survival, and environmental restoration will inspire, enrage, and catalyse.

Catch Yurlu Country as it screens tomorrow night at Film Harvest.

Wittenoom is the largest contaminated site in the Southern Hemisphere. Due to extreme blue asbestos contamination left behind from its mining operations in the 1950s and 1960s, the town was officially closed and de-gazetted in 2007, and the remaining residents evicted. Access is strictly prohibited, and it is considered unsafe for tourism.

Learn more about this catastrophic disaster hidden in our own back yard in Yurlu Country - screening this Wednesday.
