Spend an evening under the stars at Darwin's premier outdoor cinema, the Deckchair Cinema. We're an award winning outdoor cinema on the edge of Darwin’s Harbour open 7 nights a week from mid-April to mid-November. Come down early and enjoy a refreshing beverage from our fully licensed kiosk (no BYO) or feast your taste buds on a hot meal. Gates open nightly at 5.45pm so you can enjoy a tropical su

nset before the 7.00pm screening. We are easily accessible via a well-lit, picturesque walkway from the City (via The Esplanade-Damoe Ra Walkway) or the Waterfront Precinct, and there is plenty of parking and bike racks available on site. The Deckchair Cinema is operated by the Darwin Film Society, established in 1954, to give Darwin audiences access to movies that would otherwise go unseen on the big screen. Being Darwin's only independent cinema our program is a diverse range of Australian, popular, family, foreign and classic films. The Darwin Film Society also operate Flix in the Wet (Sunday afternoons, January through March) and the Darwin International Film Festival (annually in September). TERMS OF USE OF OUR FACEBOOK PAGE

Our fourth and final program for 2026 is ON SALE NOW! 🎬

The team has been squirrelling away over the past few months to secure an amazing line-up for Program 4, and we think we’ve saved the best for last!

The program begins with a flurry of special events: the NT premiere of The Piano Tuner, a Darwin-Garramilla Shorebird Festival screening of Malleefowl in partnership with Birdlife Top End , a special German Week presentation of The Empty-Nesters, and a 40th-anniversary screening of Crocodile Dundee in partnership with Kakadu Tourism. The Spirit of Kakadu!

For the school holidays, we have Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom, Spider-Man: Brand New Day and a free screening of the original Spider-Man for audiences aged 12–25, thanks to LAUNCH Darwin.

The season finishes strongly with advance previews of Late Fame, starring Willem Dafoe, and MIFF opening-night film Wicker, starring Olivia Colman.

Closing Night features The Fox, a wickedly dark Australian comedy starring Jai Courtney and Emily Browning, with Olivia Colman and the late Sam Neill lending their voices. Fresh from award wins at both Sydney Film Festival and MIFF, it’s a cracking way to close the Deckchair Cinema season!

Mistress Dispeller takes us inside an extraordinary profession in China, where women are hired to end affairs and return unfaithful husbands to their marriages.

With remarkable access and unexpected compassion, director Elizabeth Lo follows one case from every side: the wife, the husband and the mistress. The result is an intimate, quietly gripping documentary in which nobody is simply the villain.
