🦈 50 years later… and it’s still not safe to go back in the water.

JAWS is turning 50 and we’re celebrating by bringing one of cinema’s greatest thrillers back to the big screen at the Phoenix.

Come for the iconic soundtrack. Stay for the shark. And perhaps reconsider that summer swim. 😬🌊

🎬 REBOUND: SPECIAL SCREENING + FILMMAKER Q&A AT THE PHOENIX

We’re delighted to welcome Australian independent film REBOUND to the Phoenix for a special one-off screening on Sunday 13 September at 2pm.

Filmed on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, REBOUND is a Christmas romantic comedy following Dee, a woman in her late 30s, as she rebounds from one funny, failed date to the next in search of Mr Right — before the story takes an unexpected turn. ❤️

Making this screening extra special, co-writer, co-director, producer and lead actor Davina May Marr will be joining us in person, with a Q&A following the film.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to support Australian independent cinema, meet one of the filmmakers and enjoy a unique community cinema event right here in Daylesford.

🎬 SEPTEMBER AT THE PHOENIX: A CELEBRATION OF SPIELBERG

Alongside exciting new releases this coming month, we’re taking a look back at the extraordinary career of Steven Spielberg.

We’ll be bringing a selection of standout Spielberg favourites back to the big screen throughout the month. Keep an eye on our schedule for some of the best from Spielberg. 🎥✨

Steven Spielberg's filmography spans populist blockbusters and serious historical drama, often blending the two. He redefined mainstream cinema with Jaws (1975), Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), and the Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park series - films built on spectacle, suspense, and a childlike sense of wonder. Alongside these, he made weightier, awards-driven dramas grappling with history and morality: Schindler's List (1993), Saving Private Ryan (1998), Munich (2005), Lincoln (2012), and Bridge of Spies (2015).

Later films like The Post (2017) show him turning toward journalism, legacy, and personal reflection. Across genres, his work is marked by strong visual storytelling, emotional accessibility, and a recurring interest in family, loss, and moral courage under pressure.
