🎬 Newcastle friends, Flickerfest is coming your way on Saturday 6th June at 6:30pm and 9:00pm at the Civic Theatre Newcastle Playhouse, with two huge sessions of incredible short films on offer, handpicked from a record 3700 entries and fresh from our 35th festivals Oscar Qualifying Competition in Bondi!

✨Kicking off at 6:30pm with the Best of Australian Shorts, we’re especially excited to share some brilliant films that starred at Flickerfest with strong Newcastle connections including ‘I’m Sorry For Your Loss’ by Newcastle-raised filmmaker Stephen Di Gravio, ‘Anna And Alfonso’ by director Anna Outridge who spent her teen years in Newcastle, and the moving ‘Nothing And The Sun’ starring Newcastle’s own Nicholas Davies.

🏆Expect powerful stories, sharp comedies, familiar faces with films starring Hugo Weaving, Kat Stewart and Peter Phelps also in the mix.

A highlight is WA film 'Without White Clovers', by Perth's Cooper Clarke and starring Peter Rowsthorn (Kath & Kim), a powerful true story inspired by two brothers and the emotional distance between them after an unexpected message changes everything.

🎬 Saturday 16 The Empire Theatre, Toowoomba — Flickerfest is back for one huge night of award-winning short films from Australia and around the globe.
🌟 At 5:30pm, catch the Best of International Shorts programme, packed with exceptional, award winning films fresh from their Australian premiers in Bondi, including recent Oscar winner ‘The Singers’
🏁Then at 8:00pm, don’t miss the Best of Australian Shorts, featuring the powerful and deeply personal docudrama ‘Return of the Champ’ by Toowoomba born and raised comedian Damien Power. Shot around Toowoomba , the film follows Damien and his world champion racing driver brother Will Power as they confront a long-buried sibling rivalry in the aftermath of a traumatic crash.
Also screening are standout Australian shorts starring the likes of Hugo Weaving, Kat Stewart, Colin Lane and Peter Phelps and more, all part of a stellar line up celebrating bold local storytelling.

🎬 Huskisson film friends, we’re excited to share that Illawarra filmmaker Michael Chrisoulakis will be joining us for a Q&A after the screening of his film as part of our Best Of Australian Shorts, on tour screening at 7pm on Saturday 16 May at Huskisson Pictures

Michael’s short ‘Alfredo’ is a beautifully relatable family dramedy starring Fiona Press (Packed to the Rafters) and Francis Greenslade (Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell), and we can’t wait for audiences to hear more about the making of the film and the stories behind it.

😍Always one of the best parts of touring Flickerfest, getting to connect filmmakers and audiences in the room. See you there! ✨

Save the date, 17 May at Wollondilly Performing Arts Centre 🎬✨ We’re heading back your way with the Best of Australian Shorts, celebrating 35 years of Flickerfest and bringing a big night of storytelling straight to your local screen.

From over 3,700 entries, we’ve handpicked eight standout Australian shorts that really showcase the heart, humour and creativity of our industry. It’s a delightful mix of audience favourites, award winners and fresh new voices, all in one sitting.
A highlight is Alfredo, a local gem from Illawarra filmmaker Michael Chrisoulakis. It’s a beautifully relatable family dramedy starring Fiona Press (Packed to the Rafters) and Francis Greenslade (Shaun Micallef's Mad as Hell)
