Spain’s autumn edition of the Fiesta del Cine has concluded with over 1.54 million attendees, marking its strongest performance since 2019.

The provisional figures represent a 72.4% increase compared to last year's autumn event! The Spanish feature La Bola Negra led the box office, becoming the third most-viewed Spanish film in the Fiesta's history.

UNIC was proud to take part recently in the workshop “Rebuilding Ukraine’s audiovisual sector: how can European professionals help?”, held on 9 October 2026 at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. Organised by the European Audiovisual Observatory - Observatoire européen de l'audiovisuel, the event brought together Ukrainian professionals and their counterparts from across Europe. We were especially proud that our member Roman Romanchuk, CEO of Multiplex, delivered an impactful, scene-setting presentation to kick off the conference.

Last night, UNIC and FIAD were delighted to welcome nearly 100 policymakers and film industry stakeholders to Cinéma Galeries for an exclusive screening of Coward, directed by Lukas Dhont and co-written by Angelo Tijssens.

The film, whose two lead actors jointly received the Best Actor Award at Cannes this year, is also Belgiums official submission for the 2027 Academy Awards 🇧🇪

The evening was a wonderful opportunity to highlight the essential role of cinemas and film distributors in bringing diverse stories to audiences across Europe.

Laura Houlgatte (UNIC) and Adeline Chauveau (FIAD) also touched on the challenges facing the sector, including the proposed AgoraEU programme and the need to ensure dedicated and adequate support for the European film sector.

A particular highlight was having Angelo Tijssens join us for an insightful Qamp;A, sharing the story behind the film and offering a glimpse into its creative journey.

A huge thank you to Angelo for his generosity, to Cinéma Galeries for hosting us, to Lumière for its collaboration, and to everyone who joined us for this memorable evening!

Together with other organisations representing Europe's cinema, film and audiovisual sectors, UNIC has signed a joint statement calling for adequate funding for AgoraEU.
We urge EU Member States to ensure that AgoraEU has the resources needed to achieve its objectives.

Europe’s culture, media and democracy deserve investment, not cuts.

We, the undersigned organisations representing Europe’s cinema and audiovisual sectors, call on EU Member States and the Irish Presidency to reject the proposed cuts to AgoraEU and secure a budget consistent with its objectives under the 2028–2034 Multiannual Financial Framework.

A great few days in Los Angeles at the 2026 Cinema United Fall Summit, bringing together industry leaders to exchange perspectives on the opportunities and challenges facing cinemas and the future of the big-screen experience.

UNIC was in Los Angeles at the end of September for Cinema United’s 2026 Fall Summit, which brings together cinema operators and industry partners for several days of meetings, studio presentations, educational sessions and networking.

🎬 The UNIC team recently attended the 2026 FNCF Congress in Deauville, joining French exhibitors, distributors, and industry leaders to discuss key trends, value chain synergies, and release strategies for the future of cinema. Beyond insightful panels on exhibition and the CNC’s new Consultation Committee, the event featured a special gathering for our UNIC Women’s Cinema Leadership Programme.

🎬 A successful first edition of Kino Days in Czechia!

The first-ever Kino Days brought 209,000 cinema-goers to screens across the country over two days. Compared with the previous weekend, attendance increased from 89,000 to 209,000.

From Friday to Sunday, total box office revenue also rose by 39% compared to the previous weekend, from CZK 19 million to CZK 26 million, with participating cinemas accounting for more than 90% of admissions.
