🎬 RETOUR EN IMAGES | BRIFF JOUR 1

Hier, Bruxelles s’est mise à l’heure du cinéma. ✨Les loupiotes du chapiteau se sont allumées, les salles de l’UGC De Brouckère et du Palace étaient pleines à craquer et, sur grand écran, « Notre Salut » d’Emmanuel Marre a lancé cette 9ᵉ édition en beauté, à l’occasion de la Cérémonie d’ouverture du festival. ❤️

Un grand plaisir d’accueillir Emmanuel Marre, Swann Arlaud, Sandrine Blancke et toute l’équipe du film pour cette avant-première belge. 🎥✨

Et ce n’est que le début ! 🎉

Pendant plusieurs jours, le BRIFF vous donne rendez-vous pour découvrir des films, rencontrer celles et ceux qui les font et partager de nombreux moments autour du cinéma.

Et au-delà des salles, le festival se poursuit aussi sous le chapiteau, Place De Brouckère ! ❤️ Ouvert à tou·tes, tous les jours dès 12h, le Village vous attend pour boire un verre, faire des rencontres, échanger autour des films et profiter pleinement de l’ambiance du festival.

Gisteren stond Brussel helemaal in het teken van cinema. ✨

De lichtjes van het festivalpaviljoen gingen aan, de zalen van UGC De Brouckère en Palace zaten afgeladen vol en op het grote scherm bracht Notre Salut van Emmanuel Marre deze 9e editie prachtig op gang tijdens de openingsceremonie. ❤️

We waren blij om Emmanuel Marre, Swann Arlaud, Sandrine Blancke en het hele filmteam te verwelkomen voor deze Belgische première. 🎥✨

En dit is nog maar het begin! 🎉

De komende dagen nodigt het BRIFF jullie uit om films te ontdekken, de mensen achter de films te ontmoeten en samen mooie momenten te beleven.

Ook buiten de bioscoopzalen gaat het festival verder in ons paviljoen op het De Brouckèreplein! Het Festival Village is elke dag vanaf 12 uur open voor iedereen. Kom langs voor een drankje, ontmoet andere filmliefhebbers en geniet van de festivalsfeer. ❤️

Swann Arlaud & Emmanuel Marre, through the lens of Maël G. Lagadec 📸

The duo joined us for the Belgian premiere of Notre Salut as part of the BRIFF Opening Ceremony.

Winner of the Best Screenplay Award at Cannes 2026, the film, directed by Emmanuel Marre, is also in competition in the BRIFF International Competition.

🎬 Next screening: Tuesday, September 8 at 6:15 PM at Cinema Galeries.

Notre Salut will be released in Belgian cinemas by Cinéart from September 30.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗝𝘂𝗿𝘆 🎬

Ava Cahen — Artistic Director of La Semaine de la Critique since 2022, film critic and co-editor-in-chief of FrenchMania. A regular contributor to Le Masque et la Plume and Le Cercle, she has also authored several books on cinema and television. She regularly serves on international festival juries and leads workshops worldwide.

Caroline Maleville — Head of Programming at the Cinémathèque française since 2009, where she curates events dedicated to innovative contemporary cinema. A graduate of La Fémis, she has collaborated with major international festivals including Locarno and Cannes, joining the Directors’ Fortnight selection committee in 2022.

Sara Wikler studied screenwriting with Luc Dardenne. She began working as a script reader in 1993 for the film departments of TV networks like Canal+, Arte, and TF1. Later, she joined the management team at Canal+ as the head of French film acquisitions. She then became an artistic producer for animated films and started consulting on live-action movie scripts. Since 2023, she has devoted herself exclusively as a script doctor, trainer, and mentor for writing workshops.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀’ 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗝𝘂𝗿𝘆 🎞️

Blandine Lenoir — French filmmaker and actress who began her career at 15 in Gaspar Noé’s Carne. She has directed numerous award-winning short films and features including Zouzou, Aurore and Annie Colère, acclaimed by audiences and critics. Her latest film, Juliette au printemps, was released in 2024.

Erwan Leduc — French filmmaker and director of Perdrix (2019), selected for Directors’ Fortnight, and La Fille de son père (2023), presented at Critics’ Week. He also directed the miniseries Sous contrôle and Le monde n’existe pas for Arte. He is currently preparing his third feature film.

Claude Schmitz — Belgian film director and theatre maker, exploring the intersection of cinema and theatre through hybrid forms. His acclaimed films include Braquer Poitiers, Lucie perd son cheval and The Other Laurens, presented at Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes. His latest film, Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, was released in 2026.

Irina Lubtchansky — a French cinematographer and assistant director, notably known for her long-standing collaborations with Rabah Ameur-Zaïmeche and Arnaud Desplechin. She also works with Valérie Donzelli (Nona et ses filles in 2021, À pied d’oeuvre in 2025), Noémie Lvovsky (La Grande Magie in 2022), and lensed the film Le Roman de Jim by Arnaud and Jean-Marie Larrieu (2024). Alongside her professional work, she regularly teaches at film schools such as the CinéFabrique.

Alexe Poukine — Belgian filmmaker, director and screenwriter, known for her award-winning documentaries Sans frapper and Dormir, dormir dans les pierres. Her debut feature Kika was selected for Critics’ Week at Cannes and the Brussels International Film Festival, where it won the ‘Grand Prix’.

Zinedine Soualem — A former street mime, he began his career in theatre before moving into film. Known for his long-standing collaboration with Cédric Klapisch, he has appeared in L’Auberge espagnole, Casse tête chinois, En Corps and Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis, as well as acclaimed auteur films such as The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. More recently, he starred in Sur un Fil and La Venue de l’Avenir.

Myriem Akheddiou — Belgian actress and voice actress, known for her collaborations with the Dardenne brothers and her roles in Titane, Midwives and On vous croit. She received a Magritte Award for Young Ahmed and several acting awards for On vous croit.

Frédéric Fonteyne — Belgian filmmaker and director, known for award-winning films such as An Affair of Love, The Wife of Gilles and Tango Libre, which won the Special Jury Prize at Venice. His latest film, Filles de joie, co-directed with Anne Paulicevich, represented Belgium at the 2021 Oscars.

🎬 EDDY DE PRETTO & L’ÉQUIPE DE VIGILANTE À BRUXELLES !

✨ Eddy de Pretto, Olivier Pairoux, Damien Chapelle, Zacharie Chasseriaud, Roxane Mesquida, Leontine Clerbois, Nour belkhiria et Johan Heldenbergh seront présents au BRIFF à l’occasion de la projection de Vigilante !

Venez découvrir le film et rencontrer l’équipe pour un moment privilégié quelques jours avant sa sortie en salles. Eddy de Pretto y tient un rôle intense et méconnaissable, sous la direction d’Olivier Pairoux.

🎬 TALK & SCREENINGS | Caroline Strubbe au BRIFF 💫

La réalisatrice belge Caroline Strubbe est mise à l’honneur au BRIFF avec Trying to Forget to Remember, une trilogie tournée sur près de vingt ans : Lost Persons Area (2009), I’m the Same, I’m an Other (2013) et The Silent Treatment (2025).

À travers les trajectoires de Tess et Szabolcs, la cinéaste explore le silence, la culpabilité, la mémoire, le déracinement et la possibilité fragile du pardon.

✨ The Silent Treatment, dernier volet de la trilogie, sera présenté en avant-première au BRIFF et en Compétition Nationale, en présence de Caroline Strubbe pour un TALK avec le public.

Les deux premiers films seront également projetés en rétrospective. Une occasion rare de (re)découvrir l’univers singulier d’une figure majeure du cinéma belge contemporain.

🎬 De Belgische regisseuse Caroline Strubbe staat in de kijker op het BRIFF met Trying to Forget to Remember, een trilogie die over bijna twintig jaar werd gemaakt: Lost Persons Area (2009), I’m the Same, I’m an Other (2013) en The Silent Treatment (2025).

Aan de hand van de levenspaden van Tess en Szabolcs verkent de cineaste thema’s als stilte, schuld, herinnering, ontworteling en de broze mogelijkheid van vergeving.

✨ The Silent Treatment, het derde en laatste deel van de trilogie, gaat in avant-première op het BRIFF en maakt deel uit van de Nationale Competitie. Caroline Strubbe zal aanwezig zijn voor een TALK met het publiek.

Ook de eerste twee films worden opnieuw vertoond in het kader van de retrospectieve. Een unieke kans om het bijzondere werk van een belangrijke stem binnen de hedendaagse Belgische cinema (opnieuw) te ontdekken.
