There’s something special about places that quietly become part of a town’s story.

The Mayfair Cinema has been part of Uptown Olds since 1925. Over the years, it has seen silent films give way to “talkies,” played wartime newsreels during the Second World War, and made the shift from film reels to digital projection.

For generations, it has been where families spent Friday nights, kids watched movies wide-eyed with popcorn in hand, couples went on dates, and neighbours gathered to share a story on the big screen.

A lot has changed since 1925, but one thing hasn’t: the feeling of sitting in a dark theatre, waiting for the movie to begin.
