Locarno Open Doors Launched in 2003, Open Doors aims at assisting directors and producers from countries in the South and the East, where independent filmmaking is vunerable.

A cross-cutting initiative of Locarno Film Festival – launched in 2003 – promoting cinema from the South and the East, now focusing on Latin America and the Caribbean.

In the second year of the 2025–2028 focus, we continue to spotlight emerging talents and powerful stories from 42 African countries, supporting filmmakers working in particularly challenging independent cinema contexts.

Open Doors Projects, Producers and Directors will unfold over three months in 2026: online in June and July, and onsite during the 79ᵗʰ Locarno Film Festival (August 5–15).

Open Doors is proud to present its very first podcast episode, recorded during the 2025 edition of the Locarno Film Festival as part of the Open Doors Producers program.

Directed by Haitian filmmaker Wendy Desert and selected for the 2024 Open Doors Screenings, the film is born from the powerful collaboration between dancer-choreographer Linda I. The Open Doors team is delighted to welcome Angèle Diabang as a new member of its Selection Committee!

Besides being a prolific Senegalese filmmaker and producer, Angèle is the founder of the production company Karoninka and Institut Mousso, a free audiovisual training program for young women in Casamance.

Her knowledge of the film industry and experience will be an invaluable asset to our team.
