The new documentary film “SAVING SPOONIE” tells the story of the Spoon-billed Sandpiper, one of the world’s most endangered shorebirds. Its migration from Russia through East Asia to Southeast Asia crosses multiple countries and regions, making its conservation a shared international effort.
The Spoon-billed Sandpiper is also a ambassador species, reflecting the need for coordinated conservation across its full migration route.
Community science, through sightings, surveys, and waterbird counts, supports monitoring and protection of this rare species.
