Neisse Nysa Nisa Film Festival

Neisse Nysa Nisa Film Festival International Film Festival in the border triangle of Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. ENGLISH DESCRIPTION BELOW! Ein Ehrenpreis wird seit dem 11.

This years edition from May 26 to 31 2026 with venues across the borders...

********************************

The Neisse Filmfestival, at home in the southeastern corner of Germany, where the German, Polish and Czech borders meet, is characterized by cooperation between film clubs in the Czech Republic, Germany and Poland, and offers a glimpse into film production in the three neighbor countries. Since its inception in Grosshennersdorf and Zittau in 2004, the Neisse Film Festival has grown steadily, and now films have also been shown across eastern Saxony in several cinemas in many cities. One aspect of the festival which makes it unique in Germany, is its internationality, with films being shown in three countries. The competition for long fiction feature films and for the Best Documentary make up the heart of the program. Nine feature films in each competition, made by mostly younger German, Polish and Czech film directors compete for five prizes. This are awarded by an international jurys which views each of the competition films during the festival. The Short Film Competition has attracted great interest. The films involved are largely from students at Film Academies in our three countries. Each year a jury selects the film to receive the prize for the best short film. First awarded in 2012, we also give a prize for the Best Documentary of the festival program. Every film being shown in the festival is eligible for two further prizes: the Audience Favorite and a SPEZIAL Prize funded by the Saxon Film Association (Filmverband Sachsen). A rich variety of films dealing with numerous special themes as well as international box office hits, join the feature films, short films and documentaries. In addition, the festival program includes film discussions, public readings, art exhibitions and concerts by musicians from the Czech Republic, Germany and Poland. The festival is thankful to its faithful friends and sponsors for their support and funding. The Neisse Film Festival and its diverse program offer people on all sides of the borders a special view of their neighbors and their realities, both past and present, thus opening doors for a new future.

FILM SECTION: MIDNIGHT OPEN AIR 🦇

Somewhere between vampire legend, subversive animation, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" cult, and offbeat midnight cinema, a long open-air night unfolds in the garden of the Kunstbauerkino, filled with obsessions, abysses, and liberations. "The Blood Countess" transplants the infamous Erzsébet Báthory into present-day Vienna, blending historical horror with dark humor and vampire mythology. “Anifilm Presents: That’s What She Said, Vol. 02” brings together seven films by female directors from Central and Eastern Europe. It offers poetic, political, and visually unconventional perspectives on the present and on inner worlds. “Sane Inside Insanity — The Phenomenon of Rocky Horror” looks back on a global cult phenomenon and its q***r energy on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. Finally, “Midnight Shorts” offers a late-night short film program full of wit, provocation, and cinematic boundary-crossing.

FILM SECTION: ČESKÉ PANORAMA

A bitter comedy, a dark crime thriller, a drama, and an intense survival film: four films that offer a panorama of contemporary Czech cinema. They tell the story of a man coping with chaos in his life after a bad joke, of a child fighting for survival in the winter mountains, of a sensitive look at a family member’s addiction—and of a difficult investigation into a murder case.

🐟 FEATURE FILM COMPETITION 🐟

The Feature Film Competition brings together nine films that tell, with great formal and narrative diversity, the stories of people struggling for stability, dignity, and self-determination. In “Permit” a worker in the Polish system of exploitation reaches his limits; in “Trail of Hein” a return to an island becomes a trial. “Glorious Summer” paints a deceptive idyll, while “Camper” depicts an exhausted search for freedom, connection, and a fresh start. “No Ghosts on Good Street” tells the story of siblings caught between loss and new beginnings, and “Noah” explores grief, anger, and loyalty in the wake of a fatal police operation. “China Sea” examines guilt, hope, and the return of violence; “Sex Week On” explores grief and overwhelm during the COVID-19 pandemic; “Summer School, 2001” focuses on homecoming, family tensions, and coming of age amid dependency, migration experiences, and precarious circumstances.

📚✨ LESUNG MIT PEGGY MÄDLER ✨📚
„Selbstregulierung des Herzens“

📍 Gerhart Hauptmann-Theater Görlitz-Zittau
📅 27.05. | 19:00–20:30 Uhr

🎟️ VVK: 12 €
