HOME OF FILMS

Die Internationalen Hofer Filmtage werden vom Cine Center Hof e.V. organisiert und sind eines der bedeutendsten Filmfestivals in Europa. Das Festival hat als Plattform für deutsche Nachwuchsregisseure einen fast legendären Ruf: Für die Entdeckung junger Talente gelten die Filmtage nach Berlin als wichtigstes Filmfest im deutschsprachigen Raum. Nicht minder bedeutend sind allerdings

die Independent-Filme aus aller Welt, die rund die Hälfte der insgesamt rund 130 Spielfilme, Dokumentationen und Kurzfilme im Programm ausmachen. Präsentiert werden die Vorstellungen meist von der Regisseurin oder vom Regisseur selbst, die es sich nur selten nehmen lassen, dem Publikum bei der deutschen Erstaufführung ihres Werks persönlich Rede und Antwort zu stehen. Seit dem ersten „Filmvormittag“ im Jahre 1967 findet auch das legendäre Fußballspiel statt, bei dem der FC Hofer Filmtage – eine Auswahl von Schauspielern, Regisseuren und Produzenten – gegen den aus Mitarbeitern und Fans bestehenden FC Filmwelt antritt. 1976 begann mit Brian de Palma die Tradition der Retrospektive, in deren Rahmen jedes Jahr ein international bedeutender Regisseur mit seinem Werk im Mittelpunkt steht. 🎬🏳️‍🌈 FILM MEETS DIVERSITY:
THE HOF INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL AT CSD HOF

On May 30, 2026, Christopher Street Day (CSD) will take place in Hof for the third time. Once again, this day of action aims to demonstrate that q***r life is an integral and natural part of society—in smaller towns and rural regions just as much as in major cities.

The Hof Internation Film Festival (HIFF) is also once again participating in the CSD’s accompanying program. On May 28 at 5:00 PM, the feature film I HAVE NEVER BEEN HERE by Tor Iben will be screened at the Central Kino. The film was part of the festival’s most recent edition and offers a poignant exploration of identity, sexuality, and heritage.

Following the screening, a Q&A session with filmmaker Tor Iben will take place. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the film’s background and production process, as well as to engage in conversation together. The event will be moderated by journalist and IHF colleague Alina Juravel.

👏🏻 LUISA Wins “Best Feature Film Diversity”

Great recognition for LUISA by Julia Roesler: At Filmfest Bremen, the film was awarded the “Best Feature Film Diversity” prize.

“The jury awards the diversity prize to the entire film team of LUISA – with the wish to see more stories like this.”

The film had already deeply moved audiences at its German premiere at the 59th Hof International Film Festival 2025, where it was honored with the New German Cinema New Talent Award.

Filmpreisträger der Stadt Hof 2006

Wir trauern um Alexander Kluge, Wegbegleiter und Freund der Internationalen Hofer Filmtage, Regisseur, Produzent, Schriftsteller, philosophischer Theoretiker, Visionär, Künstler und Zeitreisender.

Alexander Kluge war eine der prägenden Persönlichkeiten des Jungen, später des Neuen Deutschen Films. Er gehörte zu den Initiatoren des Oberhausener Manifests, das 1962 „Papas Kino“ für tot erklärte und eine Gegenbewegung zum als rückständig empfundenen Nachkriegskino auslöste. Junge Filmemacher strebten danach, ihre Geschichten anders und frei von Konventionen zu erzählen; weg vom Unterhaltungskino der 50er Jahre, hin zu gesellschaftspolitischen Auseinandersetzungen. Der Autorenfilm des Neuen Deutschen Films, dessen intellektueller Kopf Alexander Kluge war, war geboren.

Kluge, befreundet mit dem langjährigen Leiter der Hofer Filmtage, Heinz Badewitz, zeigte erst 1982 seinen Film KRIEG UND FRIEDEN bei den Filmtagen, den er zusammen mit Stefan Aust, Axel Engstfeld und Volker Schlöndorff realisierte. Der Film reflektierte die geplante NATO-Nachrüstung von Pershing-II-Mittelstreckenraketen, Cruise-Missiles und Neutronenbomben, die für Ende 1983 geplant war und die damit verbundene öffentliche Diskussion.

Weitere Filme sowie Besuche der Internationalen Hofer Filmtage folgten in allen Jahren danach.

2006 erhielt er den Filmpreis der .hof der an Persönlichkeiten, die eng mit den Hofer Filmtagen verbunden sind, vergeben wird. Die Laudatio hielt Christoph Schlingensief.

👏🏻 Congrats to Oscar® win!

What a moment: TWO PEOPLE EXCHANGING SALIVA by and Natalie Musteata and Alexandre Singh wins the Oscar® for Best Live Action Short Film.

The film celebrated its acclaimed German premiere at the 59th Hof International Film Festival 2025, narrated by Vicky Krieps and starring Zar Amir Ebrahami, Luàna Bajrami and Aurélie Boquien.

An absurd yet poetic tragedy about a world where kissing is forbidden and people pay for goods with slaps to the face —but: two people still find the courage to grow close.

NAWI – DEAR FUTURE ME 🎬✨

The multi-award-winning film (58th Hof International Film Festival/HoF) and Kenya’s official Oscar entry is now in cinemas in Germany and North America.

The film follows 13-year-old Nawi from rural Turkana, Kenya, who defies against a forced marriage and risks everything to fight for education and a self-determined future.
