The solidarity march «Move you for Human Rights» closes the «Week of Human Rights in Castelló»

Last Sunday, November 18, 2018, the 6th solidarity march was held, which, as every year, is organized by the Castellón Local Group of Amnesty International, together with the Castelló Excursionist Center.

This activity closes the cycle of those that make up the "Week of Human Rights in Castelló".

The purpose of the march is, in addition to enjoying a festive day and fraternization between all the people who want to accompany us, to broaden the base of strata of society to which Amnesty International's proposals can be sent.

This year the transfer from the Capital of La Plana to the departure point of the walk, as well as the return, was made by bus, with departure scheduled for 8:00 am in the morning from the Garden of the Auditorium of that city.

At that time the weather threatened rain, and the predictions for the rest of the day, which ended up being fulfilled, were not better, despite which, the participation was around 70 people.

The well-known one like "Route of the water" was crossed, between the populations of Viver and Jérica.

It is a refreshing and light route that runs through a place full of fountains, rivers, underground rivers, prehistoric sites, monumental trees, pools for bathing in the Palància river, villages, riverside landscapes and spectacular landscapes, always accompanied by the murmur of the water and the refreshing fountains that allow to know a little these beautiful villages of the Palància.

They were traveled, in total, 12.5 kilometers, and, despite having to endure several episodes of intermittent rain, the general opinion of the attendance was of satisfaction, in particular, for the beautiful ocher tones that the autumn landscape wore.

Both when going through Viver, as on arrival in Jérica, and as he had done the day of the screening of the short films selected for the Exhibition and the opening of the exhibition of the works submitted to the children's painting competition "Give your drawing", the Local Group of Castelló of Amnesty International installed, in the respective Major Squeres, an "itinerary", drawn on the ground, representative of the process by which a woman must pass when she has been a victim of sexual violence. In successive points of this path, 3 stones were placed, representative, each one of them, of one of the phases of the process: police station, hospital and court. Each obstacle/stone was accompanied by an informative poster. At the end of the tour, it was available to the attendees, in order to sign it, a manifesto to denounce this situation. All within the action that the Spanish Section of Amnesty International is currently carrying out, under the slogan "ENOUGH OBSTACLES FOR THE VICTIMS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE: ".

Well, here you have, as attached images, a small sample of the infinity of photos taken this day.

Inauguration of the Exhibition of the participating works in the children's painting competition «Give your drawing».

As has already been mentioned in this post, the Short Film Exhibition is part of a series of events that are celebrated under the theme of Human Rights Week in Castelló.

The other two are: A children's painting contest with a theme related to Human Rights, which is to which we refer here, and solidarity hiker walk, organized the three, by the Local Group Castelló Amnesty International, the latter in collaboration with the Castelló Excursionist Center.

The painting contest, which this year celebrated its 4th edition, is called among students in primary schools in our area, and we have given the name "Give your drawing" since, the winning work is the main face of a postcard that we publish each year, coinciding with the 10th of December, International Human Rights Day, so it can be sent by anyone who wants it, to other people in the world who have suffered violations human rights, and / or that are at risk of suffering, giving they encouragement.

All the works submitted to the contest are displayed in the vestibule of the Museum of Fine Arts of Castelló. This year, 2018, the opening of this exhibition took place on November 9, and closes on the 25th of the same month.

How they already made the day of the screening of the shorts selected for the Show, and it is expected that they will return to the exit, and upon arrival, of the walk, just in front of the entrance to the venue, the Local Group of Castelló Amnesty International, organizer of the event, had installed, symbolized on the ground, an "itinerary" representative of the process by which a woman has to pass when she has been a victim of sexual violence. In successive points of this path, 3 stones were placed, representative, each one of them, of one of the phases of the process: police station, hospital and court. A chronicle of the 5th Edition of the International Short Film Exhibition «Human Rights and ... Action!»

On Thursday, November 8, 2018, at 7:00 pm, the screening of the shorts that had been selected by the jury for this edition of the Festival took place at the Teatro del Raval in Castelló de la Plana, Spain.

In the hall of the premises, and just in front of the entrance door to the projection room, the Local Group of Castelló of Amnesty International, organizer of the Exhibition, had installed, symbolized on the ground, a representative "itinerary" of the process by which a woman has to go through when she has been a victim of sexual violence. In successive points of this path, 3 stones were placed, each representing one of the phases of the process: police station, hospital and courthouse. Each stone was accompanied by an informative poster. At the end of the tour, it was available to the attendees, in order to sign it, a manifesto to denounce this situation. All within the action that the Spanish Section of Amnesty International is currently carrying out, under the slogan "ENOUGH OF OBSTACLES FOR VICTIMS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE: ".

Prior to the screening, the act was presented by one of the members of the Jury, who recalled that the exhibition had been born four years ago, with the intention of being a representative showcase of what is being done in the field of short films, around the world, with a theme related to Human Rights.

And how, from the beginning, it self-imposed two criteria, as conditions to be met by the selected shorts, to ensure that the selection was as varied as possible: That there would be in each edition, at least one of each of the film genres, documentary, fiction and animation, and, at least, one less than five minutes long.

I must confess (he said) that the latter, which we would say "very short shorts", constitute our weakness: We believe that, in the field of dissemination and education, be able to transmit, in a "few" images , an overwhelming message, is extremely captivating for the viewer who receives it and effective because of the impact it implies on their awareness.

He went on, then, to give some statistical information about this edition, as for example, that the number of films registered was 122, of which, he specified, only 32, 26%, had been directed by women, while those of Spanish production had represented 81%, compared to 16% of exclusively foreign production and only 3% of co-productions with some Spanish participation.

Regarding the variety of themes, which the shorts that were going to be seen picked up, he said that he believed that they were broad enough, given that, in one way or another, they dealt with each of the themes: Immigration, refugees, exploitation, speculation, social inequality, poverty, child exploitation, evictions, repression, censorship, armament, effects of war, rights of minors, mistreatment of women.

He made a special mention in relation to the fact that, since the first edition of the exhibition, the short film that closed the program "play down" from the general dramatic tone, consequent with the theme dealt with, was say, the situation of Human Rights in the World, and that they had tried to do so, once again, this year.

To finish, he said that, treating the issues they dealt with, he could not wish the attendees to enjoy the session, because it is difficult to do so, he said, but what he did trust was that they thought the selection that was presented to them.

It is fair to say, in relation to this last point that, at the end of the screening, the audience expressed their opinion, for what he had just seen, through a warm applause.

And, as data for the history of the sample, to record that, according to the services of counting of the room, the attendance was of 54 people: 34 women and 20 men.
