Selected at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival Eastern Promises, discover MASARYK: THE COUP! 🎬 Interview with Vanessa Biermannova - InFilm Praha (Czech Rep.) about this new feature-film directed by Julius Ševčík.

Following "Masaryk: A Prominent Patient" (Berlinale - Berlin International Film Festival 2017), about Tomáš Masaryk's life, MASRYK: THE COUP tells the story of his son, Jan Masaryk, who became foreign minister in a communist-led government, battling to prevent a Stalinist coup and defend his country’s democratic legacy.

The project is in late development, in coproduction with Estonia (Cuba Films) and Poland (Autograf Film), and is currently looking for a sales agent, distributors and technical participation.

⚡️For the second year in a row, a film that was part of the Coprocity Development Award competition has been selected for the Festival de Cannes.

El Deshielo (The Meltdown) by Manuella Martelli, of the 2023 Coprocity Development Award and produced by Wood Producciones (Chile), Ronda Cine (Chile), and Cinema Inutile (USA), is in competition in the Un Certain Regard section.

📍In coproduction with Zas Film (Switzerland), the film is currently looking for fundings, specifically coproducers from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, or the Baltic region!

📰"(...) When the Polish Film Institute launched its Debuts programme, Katarzyna approached me about applying together. At that point, I had gained more producing experience, and I felt it was the right moment to commit. I still strongly believed in the project, so I joined as producer.

Shortly after, we secured development funding from the Polish Film Institute, which allowed us to create a teaser, start working with key creatives, and begin location scouting. (...)"

The film project is currently in stage, with coproducing partners from Greece (Atalante Productions S.A. ) and Belgium (Mirage), telling the poignant story of an intersex woman who has to face her traumatic past to prevent history from repeating itself.

🎬 What made you decide to produce the film?

"Our writer-director Yianna Americanou approached me with this story a few years ago. I had known Yianna for years but we never had the opportunity to work together. She's a person of great integrity and an established and dynamic filmmaker in Cyprus whose films stand out for their visual identity and their approach to social and human rights, so I was very excited to come on board.

I myself was not familiar with what 'intersex' meant or the challenges and hardships that intersex people face..."

Produced by GoldenEgg Production (Switzerland) and coproduced by Still Moving, the story set in northern Colombia, where a group of q***r activists joins indigenous communities in a striking and fierce struggle to defend their land and culture from devastation caused by the country’s largest open-cast coal mine.

The Jury says it is a "daring project tackling issues around climate injustice, colonial exploitation, and q***r erasure, which promises to be a thrilling and poetic film calling for resilience and resistance."

AGORA Crossroads Co-Production Forum projects presentation

The presentation of the projects participating in this year’s Crossroads Co-production Forum of the 66th TIFF’s Agora took place on Monday, November 3rd, at the Tonia Marketaki Theatre, in the presence of Elise Jalladeau, the Festival’s General Director, Angeliki Vergou, the head of the Agora, as well as the renowned chef Sotiris Kontizas, this year’s Agora ambassador. The 21st Crossroads Co-production Forum gives the opportunity to 14 film projects from 16 countries of the Southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean region to seek co-producers and funding.
