WOW Wales One World Film Festival, Aberystwyth (2026)

23/10/2026

What could we do, right where we live, with the people around us?

Here’s a little taste of POWER STATION, the brilliant, funny and genuinely inspiring film kicking off our new Film Club at Y Stiwdio in Hermon next week!

Artist-activists Hilary Powell and Dan Edelstyn have a seemingly impossible idea: get their Walthamstow neighbours together and turn their street into a community-owned solar power station.

Cue rooftops, solar panels, fundraising, setbacks, plenty of persuasion and even a bid for Christmas number one…

We’re hosting this screening together with Cwm A***n, whose own story began with a community-owned wind turbine here in West Wales and whose work continues to explore what locally owned renewable energy and stronger, more resilient communities can look like.

So once the credits roll, we’ll keep the conversation going. What could community power look like here? What can happen when neighbours get together around an idea? And could something that sounds slightly impossible actually be possible?

Come for the film, stay for a chat, meet people from your community and bring your own ideas. 🌱⚡

📅 Thursday 29 October
⏰ 6:30pm (doors open 6.15pm)
📍 Y Stiwdio, Hermon
🎟️ PAY WHAT YOU FEEL

Tea, coffee and popcorn will be waiting too. 🍿

Beth allem ni ei wneud, yn y fan lle rydyn ni’n byw, gyda’r bobl o’n cwmpas?

Dyma flas bach ar POWER STATION, y ffilm wych, ddoniol ac ysbrydoledig sy’n lansio ein Clwb Ffilm newydd yn Y Stiwdio, Hermon yr wythnos nesaf!

Mae gan yr artistiaid-actifyddion Hilary Powell a Dan Edelstyn syniad sy’n ymddangos bron yn amhosibl: dod â’u cymdogion yn Walthamstow at ei gilydd a throi eu stryd yn orsaf ynni solar sy’n eiddo i’r gymuned.

Disgwyliwch doeau, paneli solar, codi a***n, rhwystrau, digon o berswadio a hyd yn oed ymgais i gyrraedd rhif un y Nadolig…

Rydyn ni’n cynnal y dangosiad hwn ar y cyd â Cwm A***n, y dechreuodd eu stori eu hunain gyda thyrbin gwynt cymunedol yma yng Ngorllewin Cymru, ac sy’n parhau i archwilio sut y gall ynni adnewyddadwy sy’n eiddo’n lleol helpu i greu cymunedau cryfach a mwy gwydn.

Felly, pan fydd y credydau’n gorffen, bydd y sgwrs yn parhau. Sut olwg allai fod ar ynni cymunedol yma? Beth all ddigwydd pan fydd cymdogion yn dod at ei gilydd o amgylch syniad? Ac a allai rhywbeth sy’n swnio braidd yn amhosibl fod yn bosibl wedi’r cyfan?

Dewch am y ffilm, arhoswch am sgwrs, dewch i gwrdd â phobl o’ch cymuned a dewch â’ch syniadau eich hun. 🌱⚡

📅 Dydd Iau 29 Hydref
⏰ 6.30pm (drysau’n agor am 6:15pm)
📍 Y Stiwdio, Hermon
🎟️ TALWCH FEL Y TEIMLWCH

Bydd te, coffi a phopcorn ar gael hefyd. 🍿

Last year, we started ‘WOW Around Wales’ to bring more independent cinema to our partner venues throughout the year. 🎬

It showed us just how much people value having great films on their doorstep, but it also got us thinking about communities where people don’t always have easy access to cinema.

So, we’ve been quietly working on something…

With the support of Film Hub Wales and the BFI Film Audience Network, we’re now leading SPOTLIGHT in South West Wales, bringing more opportunities to enjoy great cinema to communities across the region.

And we’re starting in Hermon!

🎥 Our first screening: POWER STATION
📍 Y Stiwdio Hermon, Hermon
🤝 In collaboration with the amazing people at Cwm A***n

Come along, bring a friend, and help us get YOUR community cinema started. 🍿🎬

🎟️ Full details and tickets via the link in our bio.

More venues and screenings coming soon! 👀

Y llynedd, fe wnaethon ni ddechrau ‘WOW Around Wales’ i ddod â mwy o sinema annibynnol i’n lleoliadau partner drwy gydol y flwyddyn.

Fe ddangosodd i ni gymaint mae pobl yn gwerthfawrogi cael ffilmiau gwych ar garreg eu drws, ond fe wnaeth hefyd ein hannog i feddwl am gymunedau lle nad yw hi bob amser yn hawdd cael mynediad at sinema.

Felly, rydyn ni wedi bod yn gweithio’n dawel ar rywbeth…

Gyda chefnogaeth Film Hub Wales a Rhwydwaith Cynulleidfaoedd Ffilm y BFI, rydyn ni bellach yn arwain SPOTLIGHT yn Ne Orllewin Cymru, gan ddod â mwy o gyfleoedd i fwynhau sinema wych i gymunedau ledled y rhanbarth.

Ac rydyn ni’n dechrau yn Hermon! ❤️

The idea is simple: bring great films into more communities, work with local venues and local people, and create regular opportunities to watch, discover, chat, laugh and maybe see something completely unexpected.

We’ve got more venues and screenings in the works which we’ll be sharing soon but, for now, we’re thrilled to announce the start of our first film club at Y Stiwdio in Hermon, in collaboration with the amazing people at Cwm A***n!

There was something very special about seeing WOW × DIFF Shorts continue in Durban.🇿🇦

Created as a Wales-South Africa exchange between WOW and the Durban International Film Festival, the programme brought together short films by emerging Welsh and South African filmmakers, creating space for young voices from both countries to be seen, heard and placed in conversation.

After first sharing South African shorts with audiences in Wales earlier this year, it was a real privilege to see the exchange continue at DIFF, with Welsh shorts reaching audiences in Durban and with the programme opening up warm, thoughtful conversations with South African filmmakers and audiences.

Thank you to DIFF, Helene Naicker, the filmmakers, audiences and the British Council Festivals Connect Fund for helping make this collaboration possible.

Roedd rhywbeth arbennig iawn am weld WOW × DIFF Shorts yn parhau yn Durban.🇿🇦

Wedi’i greu fel cyfnewidfa Cymru-De Affrica rhwng Gŵyl Ffilm WOW a Gŵyl Ffilm Ryngwladol Durban, daeth y rhaglen â ffilmiau byrion gan wneuthurwyr ffilm ifanc ac emerging o Gymru a De Affrica at ei gilydd, gan greu lle i leisiau newydd o’r ddwy wlad gael eu gweld, eu clywed a’u rhoi mewn sgwrs â’i gilydd.

Ar ôl rhannu’r ffilmiau byrion o Dde Affrica gyda chynulleidfaoedd yng Nghymru yn gynharach eleni, roedd yn fraint gweld y gyfnewidfa’n parhau yn DIFF, gyda ffilmiau byrion Cymreig yn cyrraedd cynulleidfaoedd yn Durban a’r rhaglen yn agor sgyrsiau cynnes a meddylgar gyda gwneuthurwyr ffilm a chynulleidfaoedd yn Ne Affrica.

Diolch i DIFF, Helene Naicker, y gwneuthurwyr ffilm, y cynulleidfaoedd a Chronfa Festivals Connect y Cyngor Prydeinig am helpu i wneud y cydweithrediad hwn yn bosibl.

We’re incredibly proud to see Lily Tiger Tonkin Wells giving a talk at this year’s Eisteddfod !

During her talk, Lily introduced 'She Sells Shellfish', her first work as a professional artist that was commissioned by WOW in 2022-23 through our Bangladesh-Cymru Climate Stories collaboration with Dhaka DocLab.

It's been wonderful to watch Lily's work continue to develop and to find recognition and new audiences across Wales and beyond.

Congratulations, Lily! 🙌
