But this isn't your regular night out in Belfast. Far from it, in fact.
This is the kind of night that 42 PwC employees, including myself, will take to the cold, wet, concrete grounds of City Hall to raise awareness for the sadly, yet rapidly growing rate of homelessness on the streets of Belfast.
From 8pm until 8am, with nothing but a sleeping bag and a few bare essentials, we will get a glimpse into the reality of what it is like to be homeless. Whilst we will endure the chilly temperatures and pouring rain, this will only be for one night. Those living on our streets have no other choice, this is their everyday reality. They, unlike us, do not have anywhere to call home the next morning.
In the 6 months between January and June 2023, 8531 households presented as homeless to the NI Housing Executive. This is up 4.7% on the same period in 2022. Of these, 2683 households were families, with 3532 children accepted as homeless in this period.
As a group we hope to raise vital funds that will support PwC NI charity initiative,
Into Tomorrow. The Into Tomorrow programme seeks to support those in our society
who are most vulnerable to su***de and other mental health challenges, with the
lack of a stable home environment being a big contributing factor.
As we raise awareness, we ask for your support in raising the funds for this
incredible cause. Please remember, your small donation will make a huge
difference into the lives of those who need it most.
