'How to Make a Killing' (15)
It's a dark comedy in which the “mesmerising” star Glen Powell plays a man who could inherit $27 billion. Seven relatives stand in his way. It’s a zippy, easy-watching makeover of the 1949 British classic 'Kind Hearts and Coronets'.
There are breezy, chaotic murders before the film pivots from breezy, dark comedy to a straight thriller that culminates in a twist that sideswipes every viewer.

It's a chilling, examination of the inner workings of modern Russia. Adapted from the best-selling novel, it depicts how, using reality-TV tactics and mass media, an obscure KGB officer, Vladimir Putin, became the Czar-like figure of today.
Two actors on top of their game Jude Law and Paul Dano star as Putin and the man who helped him reach the top. Law, particularly, is praised for the way he captures the dictator's mannerisms and chilling persona.

St Georges Hall cinema is a COOL, AIR CONDITIONED refuge from the heat. Try us out tomorrow night (16 July) for the screening of 'The Mastermind' (12)
It stars British actor Josh O’Connor who plans and executes a robbery that goes horribly wrong. The character-driven drama cleverly subverts all the heist-movie clichés, as it plays out the botched theft's messy aftermath.
The Guardian called the film 'quietly gripping' and gave high praise to Josh O'Connor's central performance.

YOUR COMMUNITY CINEMA IS AIR-CONDITIONED!
It's a wonderfully cool venue for the screening of tomorrow's (9th July) all-British film. It's Midwinter Break (12a), a thought-provoking examination of the realities of ageing and hidden regrets. It features stellar acting by Ciaran Hinds and Lesley Manville who expertly portray the suppressed emotions and deep devotion of a couple who have been married for decades.
Being British, the film doesn't go for flashy, Hollywood-style, over-dramatisation of its themes and makes wonderful, understated use of the wintry Amsterdam setting.

On Thursday 2nd July there's a second chance to see Nuremberg (15) This is a serious account of the trials of high-ranking N**i leaders that manages to be both a courtroom drama and a psychological thriller. Russell Crowe, playing Hermann Göring, is charismatic, and chilling.

Thursday's film (25th June) is 'EPiC Elvis Presley in Concert' (12)
It's a fascinating documentary film comprised entirely of electrifying, previously unseen, remastered footage of Elvis, mostly during his 1970s Las Vegas period. It's a showcase of his peak performance era with Elvis narrating his own story through archival audio.
If you're an Elvis fan you will be thrilled at the way the film transports you back to some of his greatest performances. You will be there in the room. Even non-fans will appreciate how 'The King' enthralled audiences and the musicians around him with his mastery of his music and his performance.

Our next film, on Thursday 18 June, is a quintessential gothic horror-romance starring Jessie Buckley.
The Bride! (15) is a new take on the tragic monster story set primarily in 1930s Chicago. Frankenstein's creation (played by Christian Bale) resurrects a murdered woman (Jessie Buckley) and makes her his bride. But she is in no mood to be his possession in a film that explores themes of body autonomy and feminist rebellion.
It's a wildly ambitious, visually stunning, chaotic genre-mashup that balances tragedy with anarchic comedy.

The film is a serious account of the trials of high-ranking N**i leaders that manages to be both a courtroom drama and a psychological thriller. Russell Crowe, playing Hermann Göring, is charismatic, and chilling. The film's post-WW2 themes are as relevant today as they were then.
The Time Out critic said: “Russell Crowe is a showstopper in this gripping, smartly executed, psychologically acute and entertaining historical drama. Everyone here is a real-life figure and there is an authenticity and intellectual rigour to this extraordinary, century-defining event.”

This is the steamy, modern adaptation of Emily Brontë's gothic novel that focuses on the intense, destructive, and forbidden love between Cathy and the orphan Heathcliff. Driven by obsessive passion Heathcliff returns to seek vengeance for past injustice.
The UK Film Review critic said, “The film is gorgeous. Margot Robbie is truly excellent as Cathy, in turns cruel, selfish and vulnerable, and Jacob Elordi smoulders as Heathcliff. The result is dazzling. The costumes, set design, framing, photography all deliver a lush spectacle.”
