It’s a sentence that many of you may have heard in a television drama or perhaps a film at the cinema, but it’s a phrase that many of us will hopefully never have to hear for real. A defibrillator (AED) is a device that can help save a life should someone stop breathing or is breathing erratically, such as a heart attack or cardiac arrest. After a cardiac arrest, every minute without CPR and defib
rillation reduces someone’s chance of survival by 10% - every second counts. So the quicker a defibrillator is used, the greater the chance that the person will survive - that could be a family member, friend, colleague … or even YOU! Our ambulance service and hospitals are struggling with the number of patients and resources are being stretched to breaking point. A public access defibrillator (PAD) may help to save a life in our local community. This appeal is to raise funds for a public access defibrillator to be sited outside the Community Centre at Jennett's Park. We need to raise a minimum of £2500 to cover purchase, maintenance and installation costs. Any money raised over the initial target will be spent on providing AED/defib courses for interested residents and hopefully another AED to be located in the Wykery Copse area.
