Way back in 1997 I watched this film at a preview screening at the Cannes Film Festival, there was a lot of fuss around it as it was the only film at the festival to have a 'yellow triangle' warning symbol, declaring extreme or shocking scenes, so obviously i got there early to get a good seat. If you have seen the film (or the weaker remake) you'll probably know the scenes.
I remember sitting there stunned for a few minutes after the film had finished along with some of the other audience members, there was a split with some people hating it and other having trouble processing it. Over the years i have watched a few films that have made me feel the same but this was the first.
