🎞️ Did you know Epsom’s first-ever cinema opened back in 1910?

The Electric Theatre — complete with striking baroque towers — welcomed local film lovers to the corner of Hook Road & East Street, where audiences queued for silent films, newsreels, and live piano accompaniment from local musician Herbert Glenister.

Although the venue became a theatre in 1926, it helped begin Epsom’s enduring love of cinema — a tradition we’re proud to carry on at Epsom Picturehouse today. In honour of that history, we named Screen 3 “The Electric”, so whether you’re joining us for a film or hiring the space for your own event, you’re becoming part of Epsom’s cinematic story 🎬

A huge thank you to the team at Bourne Hall Museum for sharing these wonderful photos and helping keep Epsom’s local history alive for future generations.
