Gardaí have publicly identified Larry Murphy as a prime suspect in her disappearance and suspected murder, but nobody has ever been charged.

In September 1954, 21-year-old Jean Townsend was murdered in South Ruislip after a night out in London’s West End.

Jean Townsend, a 21-year-old theatrical costumier, was murdered in South Ruislip, London, on 14 September 1954.
The case remains unsolved.
She had been at a party at the Pyramid Club in the West End and took the last train home.
Last seen around 11:45 p.m. walking toward her parents’ house, her body was found the next morning on wasteland near Victoria Road.
She had been strangled with her own scarf.
No one was ever charged.
