Thanks folks!

Over half the tickets have been snapped up for our first ever double-bill - Escape From New York (1981) and Escape from LA (1996).

Come and join us for this double whammy of Kurt Russell as iconic sardonic anti-hero Snake Plissken, in John Carpenter's pair of slyly satirical action sci-fi cult favourites.

Both films boast stellar supporting casts including the likes of Donald Pleasance (Halloween), Issac Hayes (South Park), Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead 2) and Pam Grier (Jackie Brown), as well as gorgeous synth-heavy scores from director Carpenter himself.

Film screening this Sunday.

Screening at Victoria Hall in Glossop this weekend, is the film People's Emergency Brieing. A film that wants to bring together communities aimed at promoting conversation and action.

Do head down if you're able to...

We are working with our community to host this 👇

People’s Emergency Briefing

Curious to know the facts about the nature and climate crisis as presented to government last year? Come see the condensed version and hear top scientists and professors laying it bare. Think you know it all already? The film brings a message of hope that inspires and motivates. Only a handful of MPs attended last year; once you have seen it, you will want others to see it too, and be glad you did.
Homemade cakes, tea and an opportunity to discuss as a community afterwards.

This is not about the Politics this about the Pollinators and so much more!

Screening at Victoria Hall, Glossop, Sunday 13th September 13:30 to 15:30

Summer holidays are over, and it's back to school with the return of Glossop Cinema Club's monthly Film Quiz downstairs at The Globe Glossop this Thursday September 10th from 9pm.

We hope you've done your homework and are ready for six rounds of mind-bending movie trivia and brain-teasing cinematic general knowledge, with your somewhat ramshackle host Owain!

DM the good folks at The Globe Glossop to book your team a table.

We're back, back-to-back, with a double-whammy of Snake Plissken action and satire in a dual (or duel?) screening of John Carpenter's seminal 1981 sci-fi Escape From New York, and its somewhat less well-regarded sequel 1996's Escape From LA.

Kurt Russell became an iconic anti-hero with his dry-witted performance as Snake Plissken, a criminal coerced by the government into rescuing the president from a dystopian New York that had become a prison island for America's worst offenders.

Then, 15 years later, he found himself captured again and made to enter the equally dangerous landscape of Los Angeles following a seismic event that cast the City Of Angels off from the rest of a hyper-evangelical mainland America!

Each film feels both prescient and a product of their time, with John Carpenter injecting the action with a healthy dose of satirical cynicism and synth-heavy score!

Come and join us for this thrilling double-bill, where you can relentlessly mock and question our host - Owain - about why he inexplicably seems to prefer Escape From LA! Or, ,maybe, you'll discover that you align with his somewhat questionable tastes!?

Either way, it's going to be a fun one.

Grey Lantern presents: MAQUINA + guests

------

We are very excited to welcome one of Manchester's hardest working live promoters, Grey Lantern, back to The Globe. On Thursday 3rd September, they bring Portugal's MAQUINA to Glossop, celebrating the release of their latest album 'BODY TRANSMISSION'

------

MAQUINA. is a Lisbon-based trio and one of Portugal's most active live acts on the European circuit. Formed by Halison Peres (drums/vocals), João Cavalheiro (guitar), and José Rego (bass), the band fuses krautrock, industrial electronics, and noise into a hypnotic, high-impact sound driven by repetition and rhythm.

“BODY TRANSMISSION” marks a new phase in the band's trajectory. Centred on the energy of the dancefloor, it is a heavier, more direct, and more intense record than its predecessors. Described by the band as “an album always in motion”, it also brings a stronger focus on lyrics, now clearer, sharper, more assertive, and alongside a more precise and deliberate compositional approach, moving away from the spontaneous jams that defined earlier releases. Exploring the idea of “body music”, BODY TRANSMISSION plays with tension and release, delving into a more sensual, darker, and immersive universe.
