Due to a HIGH amount of calls and concerns, and some very unhelpful newspaper articles and chatter that have annihilated attendance of late, we must reassure all our customers that we ARE NOT closing down.

Regardless of Keighley Town Council, their decision, or any news pertaining to it, the cinema is remaining open and we are already - and have in many cases - planned screenings for next year and well beyond.

Please do not be dismayed by any negative comments or articles, we are not going anywhere and the future is much brighter now than it was thankfully. So please come and visit us and check out a film because there is no danger of us going anywhere, but we do rely on the support you have always so kindly provided.

Thank You.

Update from Keighley Picture House Cinema

✨️Great News, Keighley! ✨️
We’re overjoyed to share that the Picture House is no longer heading to auction , Bradford Council has withdrawn the sale of the freehold after strong interest from Keighley Town Council and voices across our community. This means our beloved cinema is more secure and, most importantly, “business as usual” continues – at least for the time being.

We couldn’t be more thrilled or relieved!
The future of The Picture House rests partly in our hands, but more importantly needs the support of you, our loyal patrons and the local community, not to mention Keighley Town Council. We have struggled since lockdown, partly because of the shortage of films but also the change in people’s habits and the move by film distributors to put films on streaming channels within a short time of their cinema release…. But we still have the same or bigger bills to pay. The electricity alone costs £1000 per month; and as for the gas…😱

So here’s our message to you, our amazing supporters:
• Come in and enjoy a film, don't just support online by liking or sharing - but by visiting us. We reckon that 90% of you would enjoy 90% of the films we show, if only you would give them a try.
• Bring your family. Bring your friends. Bring your love for cinema.
• Every ticket purchased, every carton of popcorn or ice cream enjoyed, every smile shared in our auditorium... that’s what keeps us alive.
Let’s protect and celebrate this cultural gem together! Share this post, bring a friend, and let’s fill our screens, for the love of film and community.
The Picture House is open as usual, and our future could be brighter than ever - but it depends on you.

🎬Some Special Screenings Coming Soon at The Picture House:
• Grease - 25 August
• Terminator Double Feature - 29 August
• Keeping Mum -7 September

We also have Live productions from The National Theatre & Royal Opera House. 🎭

• Santa Specials - details coming soon .🎅

🎊New! Cult Curiosity Club...
The first Sunday of every month at 8pm, we bring to the big screen a cult film for you all to enjoy. Organised by Friends of Picture House Cinema, which is a non-profit team aiming to help the Keighley Picture House Cinema in any way possible, and which hopes to add to the already incredible variety the cinema offers with a monthly screening of a cult gem. All proceeds from these screenings go to the up-keep and survival of the cinema.

Hi everyone,

In light of Robbie Moore MP’s recent posts and the auction site links we have been tagged in, we feel the need to clarify a few things regarding the “selling off” of The Picture House Cinema. The cinema is NOT being outright sold and shut down, we intend to continue business as usual and this is not us closing our doors, not now and hopefully not ever. This is an auction of the site we sit on and would likely mean a new landlord but with Charles Morris and Northern Morris Cinemas still here keeping the fire of independent cinema alive and burning bright.

Now, naturally there can be a worst-case scenario, nothing is a sure thing in this life, but a far greater likelihood is that our cinema will be largely unaffected, but this degree of uncertainty is why we do rely now more than ever on public support. So please, do come on down if you are able, because we always rely on and appreciate your attendance and patronage. This cinema has survived two world wars, two pandemics, the threat of corporate greed trying to turf us out with a multiplex and a few recessions, and there is a lot of people – believe me – fighting tooth and nail to ensure we survive this. And I truly believe we WILL.

This is a scary and unfortunate predicament that the council has seen fit to put us in but this is far from a cut and dry scenario, and don’t be surprised if something positive occurs soon. But, for the time being we want to assure people not to panic, the situation is not ideal but neither is it damning, we do not intend to go quietly into that goodnight, in fact we intend to still be here standing for generations to come. This is but another struggle we will face and overcome together. We have built our history and legacy on fighting to stay alive in an ever-changing world and being a historical fixed point in the town, and that will not change if we have anything to say about it.

Thank you for all your overwhelming support and we hope to see you here, as the films keep being projected and the story of The Picture House continues. Please don’t count us out, we are survivors, and as the last surviving cinema of the town, we intend to have some positive news to share with you all sometime in the future. In the meantime, we’d love to see you here and urge you once again not to worry, there are a lot of things going on and a lot of people looking out for us, and with that in mind, the cinema is not closing.

The show must, and indeed will, go on. Thank You.
