Restoring the glory at the Keswick Alhambra

Restoring the glory at the Keswick Alhambra In 2019, with the help of our supporters, we refurbished the 108-year old auditorium.

In 2021 we are restoring and repairing the facade: repointing, and reinstating the beautiful sash windows to the frontage, as well as putting in a new second screen.

Restoring the glory at the Keswick Alhambra

We’ve been entertaining audiences at the Keswick Alhambra since 1913 - one of the UK’s oldest cinemas to have been in continuous operation. Run on a shoestring, with much love (most single screen cinemas are volunteer-run charities nowadays), we have the local community and Keswick’s many visitors to thank for our continuing existence. Free tea and fresh filter coffee, shop-priced confectionary, a warm welcome (and we often know your name!) - no cash register, old-fashioned tickets from a roll, we’re your real, authentic ‘slow’ experience! The cinema has been run by a Rennie since 1991: we are completely independent, family owned and operated, and the new generation is sprucing it up and trying to future-proof the operation so that we can take it into its second century in style. We’ll be most grateful for your help!
